Bugs Found in GalCiv 1.03A.057

In the Research Screen the Technology Summaries sometimes doesn't seem to fit. For instance after researching Universal Translator the description falls partially off the screen. A missing scroll bar perhaps?

The same thing with some descriptions of Starbase Upgrades. I can't give an example right away, but the one-line sentence seems to be too long sometimes.

And guys (girls) thanx alot for a great game! :D

Another bug to add. I'm pretty new to the game and the community, so I don't know if this has already been adressed. It seems that the game fails to report the culture points right, just as you have loaded a saved game. I saved my game with 65% in culture victory, when I loaded the game again it had dropped to 39%!! But after playing a few turns it returned to the previous 65%....odd I thought so I tried it again with the same result. Otherwise a great game, thanx :)

That's a "feature". It'll take 3 turns (ish) for it to build up to it's normal level. The designers say it would take up too much effort to save and reload a complete snapshot, as the calculations are a bit complicated or some such......

From reading how the influence works, from the website encyclopedia, I can understand how it could get complicated!

I apologize if these are known, but here are a few
things I have noticed.

When starting a new game, or reloading a game. The
initial blue grid that represents your range is
from the previous game. This is most evident when
starting a new game, as the blue grid is centered
on your previous start, not your current start. No real
effect on game play.

When loading pop onto combat transports I noticed that
when I load 5 billion pop, the 'system pop' number
drops by an amount less then 5 billion. Rounding
cant account for the difference, its to large, though
the amount is rather small, 10 or so million.
I didnt check if its merely a cosmetic error or if its
abusable and can be used to increase the pop by
repeatedly loading and offloading a transport.

When you convert an enemy colony through influence
and finish a tech in the same turn, the option to
change tech's that turn is overriden by the prompt to
start changing production at finished planets. This
actually is annoying to me as I often forget to go back
and change my tech to something I want rather then
what ever it randomly picks.

If you purchase two things in the same turn one at the
same planet is lost, if the lost one was a wonder/trade
goods its like it never existed and it cant be built
at all now. I might have read somewhere that this is
already fixed in 1.04.

I can sometimes click on an enemy object to bring up
information about it, and sometimes I cant. I believe
I can when I still have ships that were not under auto
move orders. And I cant after the automoves started but
were delayed when a ship with moves left reached its
destination allowing me to issue orders again. An order
I can not issue is finding out what that new enemy
object is, cause I cant click on it(I tend to want to
know what it is if its a new starbase that I need to
know its number and owner so I can try to trade for it)

I think its been mentioned, but when u load a game
the research time is all out of wack with reality.

If you repeatedly restart the game using control N
the process of restarting the game rapidly slows down
over multiple restarts.
This suggests there is a memory leak.

The purchasing thing never reared it's head, as I've never tried to buy two things on one planet before. But in 1.04 the purchase button and the whole thing works slightly differently. You click buy, then the building being produced changes to the next one, and the purchase button dissapears. I also think the bonus from the bought building gets applied right away.

I've noticed the research thing. Also the clicking enemy ships thing. Man, that one annoys me. Not noticed the colony ship thing. I'll look closer next time.

The tech thing is another niggle.... there's some issues with "overlapping", being able to click open things like the technology screen between turns (I've got to stop playing gigantic galaxies, I get itchy and start clicking things to make sure the pc hasn't died). This has led to some odd behaviour in my games...

I was really surprized then i tested economy and i get different taxes on a same planet after loading/unloading population. It seems that it's a rounding error. It gives like +1% to population. Same thing also happens then loading population to a colony ship - it gets more population sometimes (but i'm not 100% sure). Happens like 50% of the time with transport and it depends on a population loaded into transport and left on a planet - so abusable. That's all that i saw about this bug during economy testing (it's very useful use transports to change planetary population instantly).

Ouch, it is abusable?

By rounding error, I meant that its not a simple
rounding difference given the number of signifigant
digits. There may be a rounding error in the math
logic, but the amount of pop missing is much larger
then the signifigance of the smallest digit displayed.

Anyway, probably easier to milk your population by
hitting turn then trying to milk your population like
this, but still should be fixed :)

Uhmm i think the 'no being able to click on enemy ships' bug is also related to the 'can't click on own ships bug', b/c there is a little trade frieghter on the same spot. You have to select something else (like a planet), and then select your ship from the multiple ship box (which has the little freighter and your ship). Something like that. Does this make any sense. I have the feeling i am rambling today. Too much galciv. :)
