ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

"we have 4 in the top 27 including Quack the newbie"

One of my saves got messed up, caused I upgraded before submitting it. The suicidal pure evil one was actually against a bunch of fools, it's just messed up the difficulty level. I already told the admins.
Sorry to disappoint, I'm not a newbie prodigy or anything :-p

Now, I've gotta split my time between making empires, writing gibberish, and going to uni once in a while. I'm most probably gonna stay on small maps, but up the difficulty and try some weird tactics. That way, if I go off on a tangent, I didn't waste too much time getting there. As for gibberish, I vaguely remember some spam threads I was, um, "involved with" on a another forum about duck cults, plastic costumes, and wookie porn. But it's been a while, I could be way off... :)

@ KiwiGreg: What, would have prefered the disco scene to be longer? j/k, i agree with you on that one - only question is what was worse, the movie or the pc game.

I was actually mildly amused in some of the "fight" sequences (and I love martial arts movies) but I am afraid the movie just didnt do it for me - I mean the special effects were good ...real good...but it was all a bit OTT and I am guessing the amazing "twist" in the 3rd movie is (***spoiler ahead***) they are still in the matrix even in what they think is the real world (*gasp*)

Oh and Quack - make the uni a priority!!

I am just glad when I went computer games had only progressed to "defender" else I might have been completely fuxored!!

Quack: no doubt the PC game will be worse; moviewise, loved the visuals but found the plot/script a bit ponderous but I tend to enjoy most SF - last 5 years a golden age for SF/fantasy fans on the big screen in some ways.

Must also agree with Kiwi Greg re uni - make sure you get your ticket, then party and play after! (If I can say that without sounding like your parents...)

I actually think you will find that even crippling is not difficult in the sense that maso is now just not fun (even for Staffa or RayChua). Oh, and don't forget about The Beer Wars: every day I look at the Empire screen hoping against hope our team of fighters have tipped us into number 3. Alas, unless we can pull together like the Sydney Swans we will lose our women, our beer and more importantly our wine. Good drinking and good night.

Actually you've lost your beer women and all walked the plank. The only way to prevent more of the same is to stay behind us. If you pass us, it means we ducked the Survey ship of doom into an asteroid belt to surprise and plunder you once again.

Pontius, there is not a chance the old Survey ship behind an asteroid gambit would ever work again. Once Galciv becomes widely available in the Southern Seas, the Top 3 is ours!
Can I just check, is Captain after Commander (like the Navy)? I note the discussion on another thread about how you become Veteran is unresolved. Can Captains and Commanders sledge Ensigns, or is that not done anymore?

Yeah, some of the fight scenes were kinda fun (I liked all the clone agent smiths watching neo rocket off, then wander around like lost sheep), but it felt too much like

"oy, let's fight!"
"them's fighting words!"
BANG KAPOW ZAP
(five minutes later)
"so, are we done yet?"
"nar, check the script. we've still got another two
minutes to fill in before the next scene."
"oh, right"
BASH ZAP CLONK

re uni: Yeah, I learned that lesson a few years ago, after going brain-dead three weeks into a session. My grades flatlined...

I've finished my basic comp sci degree by now, stuck around for an honours year cause I couldn't think of a real-world job yet (doing an ai thesis, for a gin rummy game - a big reason i got interested in galciv was hearing about its super-cool ai. now if only they'd re-do the funding allocation ai like at the bottom of my other thread :) )

Oh so you plan on knocking off Apolyton for 3rd after we take over first eh?

How you become a veteran is make some contribution that the devs recognize as such.

Captain outranks commander who outranks ensign. But since we are in different fleets, That just makes you a prime G.R.O.S.S. target rather than me having to follow your orders. ;p

Little does Pontius know that in fact GalCiv is not yet on the shelves at EB and similar stores in Australia. I got my copy at a shop that air freights them over...my local EB is promoting the game due on shelves around mid June in Melbourne!

The Antipodes forces will eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate!

Quack: I am NOT a comp sci guy - but hyperthreaded computer gin rummy?! LOL I love it when work and pleasure come together. Just tell your supervisor you're playing as part of the research!

Stand tall ANZACs: we shall win the Beer Wars; we shall fight them in the merlots, we shall tackle them in the tokays, and we shall never, never achieve sobriety!

Sobriety? Don't tell me someone said that word. In this epic battle, playing sober will lead to catastrophic results. Doom, I say. DOOM! :)

We already won the beer wars. It's ours. We have already set sail for Greecian waters.

I do agree with one thing. You shall never, ever achieve subriety. :)

Hmmm. Wonder what the pure evil face looks like. Most of the evil players have the chaotic one.

Yeah - it's the White Council and their small group of heavy hitters....ah well...

You're right about sobriety, Gerakken - just played with zero blood alcohol and had my ass handed to me LOL

Hey, I am just doing my part to pass on practical gaming knowledge. Call it the drunken master school of gaming. LOL

That is a school of thought that I heavily sunscribe to.

Even more when playing shooting games. Nothing like being smashed and playing a lan game of Alien vs Predator with 5 marines all together and 1 aien with friendly fire on. :)

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA, FEEL THE WRATH OF THE WHITE COUNCIL...

Oops, sorry guys, the evil megalomaniac in me got out again. Cheers, have a nice day... ;p

Well I just posted my highest score ever just then. w00t.... Just to let you know it was a normal, small, alliance victory, with the dregin at sub normal and the yor at bright. Me the Yor and the Altarians all allined with each other

I think I will get more in the these small maps. They are a hell of a lot of fun and I can still work through out the day and be productive and play at the same time.
I know that we have some truely good players in this empire. I just wrote this after action report for them to know that the little cogs are turning and generating metapoints as well

Jeatalong: The ANZAC tradition IS the little cogs. Other than Cat as Top Dog, we have a great spread of mates with good scores. As long as everyone is enjoying the game, we will all still be playing in a few months time. And I totally agree: small maps are great fun, quick and good scorers! And we have a good crack at making an impact coz most players went for tiny or giantic maps.

Yep, the French made a very big mistake in blowing up the Warrior - what a bad secret service and all, I'm sure that if the whole thing was carried out by MI6 we would all be thinking it was an accident. That is why here in the EU we all trust UK intelligence - especially when it contradicts Blair on the WMD thing. Still, I'll stick to France as far as food is concerned.
L0L "Very good"

Yes there were something like 7 agents involved - we only caught 2 of them - but imagine going after someone who actually had guns! In fairness to the French the guy who died wasnt killed in the blast - he drowned when he went onto the ship to try and recover his photographic equipment; not I am sure that they gave a shit.

It's like getting stamps from teacher!!

I like this clan scene - we can get together, post trash, and swap some trade secrets, and I don't have to make appointments to play matches weeks in advance!

re: drunken gaming - yeah, it's great, I just make sure I use a different save game. Then in the morning, I wake up, load up the save, and try and remember what stupid things I did to end up there...

Hehe, just finished another small game - I was right in the middle of the galaxy, two other races near me. Thought I'd go for conquest, so I teched up all the way to starfighters (!), then took them both on. I'd taken out the yor, and the other guys had only two planets left - i had about eight planets by now, but with almost no population and not much of a fleet. That's when I saw the drengin just past yor space. They took one look at my state, laughed, and invaded a few seconds later. He had battle-cruisers by then, so it wasn't pretty. I lost a couple starbases and all my defenders along the border, but i managed to raid his transports so i didn't get invaded. He accepted peace for tech a bit later, so I had time to build up and finish the job. :)

This is mildly amusing - it held my interest longer than Moo3 and it is cheaper too (being free): www.kingsofchaos.com

My worse drinking/gaming occurred back when I used to play EQ; I was usually the puller and the more I drank the more I used to think the chanters just needed more work to do :) It's much safer drinking while playing single player games :)

That be no misprint. That be a bug, or this whole score inflation thing just went way too far. :)
