ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

I've played four games this weekend and I still haven't been able to break 10k . . .
End of quote

Cotal,

Four games in one Saturday? Doing your best EBZ impersonation?

Don't know if this will help, but I finally cracked 10K in my last game. It was also the first game that I researched nearly to the end of the tech tree, and wasn't really dominant population-wise until near the end. Both of these are reputed to boost your overall score.

10K on a medium map is possible, but if one big total score is more important for a personal goal as opposed to a rapid series of smaller scores, play a bigger map!

Thanks for all that advice, it might take me a while to digest some of these neat ideas. I do use Crtl-N alot because I like playing on a Rare Setting.

Incidently and this is for real! This weekend I got ""FIVE"" 17 plus planets (4 systems one of which had a 28q planet to start with!) out of sheer luck in my home sector! Then (and I kid you not) a planetary precursor device was found and I had like 4 more 20 plus planets, I had just started trading! LOL

I still managed to get a nominal score . . . somehow? Hehe.

Some good points above...

Key ones I use..

Always trade mith minor planets only..
try and build up military so its at least as high as 1st... I tend to do defender, battleaxe, battlecruiser then battlehammer..
When you think you have enough of an edge over your nearest military rival i.e 2nd highest in strength.. attack at least 3 colonies at once, preferably those with high PQ value.
Then try for peace treaty asap, and remember dont just go for a peace treaty but ask for tech and cash as well.
if they are aligned with a weaker civ you can up your tech very easily so it pays to have strong military early in the game.

hope this helps

I just noticed this (gees these forums can make it hard to follow things up sometimes).

Scavenger hunt! Find #670 (hint: it’s the neighbour of #668) ;)

OK . . . tried some of those tips listed above, used a larger map, higher difficulty level, traded exclusively with the minors, researched up to Omega Power Stations/Teraforming etc, Remained the dominant millitary force throughout most of the game, owned just about all of the reseach commodities, had over 50% influence and population befor I nerfed the other civilizations. What more can I do? I mean . . . I'm at a loss to see where I'm going wrong score-wise?

I guess I'm really asking how to milk a decent score out of a clear victory . . . but beyond what I've done I haven't a clue how to do that . . .

I must be missing a big piece of the action . . . any ideas? The planet density I play on is 'rare' . . . is that the issue? :notsure:

Cotal, two questions,

What is the alignment of the AIs?

How many techs did you research? You can actually see the number in the victory screen. Else generally.

U can still get high scores playing rare.

Cotal
Research past final fromtier
Also get ALL or most of anyway of your planets completing the social production.. it gets a bit boring, but increases the score.

Cheers

Thanks Ray and (!! wow name change) Wayfarer (cool) I appreciate your tutiledge (sp?)

The AIs I ussually set are one of each i.e.

Altarin CE (Inteligent)
Dregin LG (Intelligent)
Arcean CG (Intelligent)
Yor N (Normal)
Trojan N (Normal)

I'm at work so I can't see the exact results for your querries but I recall my tech rating was about 146 (If that helps). I do a lot of tech research and sell them to the minors which drives them broke. But I Ally with them (or give them free techs and protect them if this gets them in trouble later on) so I can continue to trade during the wars with other civilizations.

I always buy any tech I don't have from other civilizations and resell it for very long leases with the minors. I ussualy 'have' Avatars by the time my opponents are starting Ranger research.

My tax averages about 15 to 25% so I get good population growth and moral (to counter the Altarians and Trojans Destabilization which they seem more often than not to use against me).

I aggresively go after trade goods (latest game I had about 10 or 12). Admitedly I have a bad habit of using Core detonation or Mass drivers one time too many and ruining planets . . . I usually destroy the conony if that happens unless I need it for range. My soildering is ussually super-elite (adv 10:2 or better (morphing etc etc ))

I seem to get a simmilar score (6000 to 8000) ranging from difficulties from Normal, Beginer through to Tough. I use Crnt-N to get a least 3 to 4 viable planets first off. I never accept a treaty unless I get some compensation . . .

I have hung around on occasion and teched through to near the end and then gone on a millitary tac to milk a better score with some success but generally find this tedious.

I just can'r understand how I can have the best economy, research and millitary by a long way for most of the game and get a score of 8000 for a large map?

Like I said I must be missing a vital component . . . sorry for the long winded account but I just wanta try and improve my scores . . . somehow?

My guess is that you are not researching enough.

Play your next game (or reload a old endgamesave) and note in the Technology tab the number of techs researched vs the number of techs discovered.

My guess is that your number of techs researched is low. I now typically research between 100-120 techs per game.

I guess I do go after Avatars a bit blindly (I do miss alot of Industrial stuff on the way (i.e. my Space stations mining only has about 4 or mayby 6 slots mid to end game) . . . I might try Painful again too . . . can't hurt (no pun intended hehe). LOL

the biggest thing to remember is generally the quicker the game the less the score.. and for the best score always choose militery conquest (all the boxes empty in victory contitions). As others have stated.. get your planets up to full production of social items priot to ending the game.. place space stations with maxed out economic modeles in them, along your reade routes.. and the longer the trade route the better... when I have things under my control (most of the planets.. I choose 2 planets.. the furthest aprt.. and if the planets are both mine , i'll give one to a minor player.. then I place my starbases along that trade route and set all (Total of 10 available if you research everything and have no peneltys) to that one route. If possable I place all trade items on that planet.. (I don't know if that helps in trading or not.. maybe someone can fill me in on this)

I keep at least 1 main opponent alive by giving him a planet out of the way (one that is away from space stations and other planets.. if possible) when they give up.. .. this keeps the game going until i have everything i want..

I play Universalists with speed +1, moral +15, range +10 ... then place spending all the way up the top.. and taxes at a level that I have my lowest planets moral at 50%.. then set production to military 100% and produce nothing but colony ships I have about 1/2 - 3/4 of the map explored.. or my money drops to below 500bc then I switch over to research 50% , military 10%, social 40% .. or there abouts to balance the budget.. and adjusting taxes all the time so that the lowest planets moral is 50%.. If only 1-4 planets moral are low then i spend properganda to build them up to the average planets moral.. then check for the 50% moral on the lowesr moral again.. all this time i have my reaserch vessel on auto scout..

Hope this helps
If i'm wrong anywhere please let me know of a better way to get a good score quicker.. at the moment my games average about 1 day to play to conclusion

Blue steel, I think you are about right.. Adopting the strategy of maxing out on all the social and researching all the way just takes time unfortuneately.. I just finished one on Gigantic/Rare and got 16,940 points... but hitting the turn key lots in the latter stages of the game.. Still it all counts.
My last game 8*8 easy with one computer player i scored 35437 but all it gave me in mvp is 7430 :( go figure

BTW there is a bug that when you give the AI player a gift of a planet he'll say "Thanks.. more presents" but it won't transfer the planet(s) .. how i get around this is to save the game.. then reload it.. (and yes it happens a lot toweards the end of the game.. unfortunatly)

I see that as well, BlueSteel. I find that I need to get something in return from the AI to effect that transfer.

Thanks folks for all the advice! IT WORKED! I finally cracked 10k and its all your fault! I am a very happy Cotal :D .

Giving the minors (with 'whom' I traded) an extra planet behind enemy lines saved me a lot of fiscal head aches mid-game! An excellent suggestion Blue.

I hadn't research up to 'Beyond Human' for so long I forgot how much tech I missed out on, thanks for reminding me Ray, I checked 149 techs completed this time and only 73 last time . . . a big difference.

Thanks Adrian too! I mean Mr Redeemer, your an inspiration!

I am a happy Cotal, yes I am! Did I already mention that? Hehe! LOL .

PS Don't buy houses with termites in them!
That's 149 out of a 150 IIRC. Amazing. You sure (almost) got them all, Cotal. :)
150! Bugger! I missed one, I even did Stellar Catrography (which I like to give to every race immediately to which they usually say "Um . . . yep, thats great!" ) and Corvets (which I ussualy give a miss)! I guess 150 must be the Last one hehe. I won't mention the fact that I brought Galactic Creation off the Dregians (sp?) for 13 000 x 5 turns! (Yes I had a lota cash . . . )

Redeemed congrats on your latest game too! I didn't realize you where talking literaly, WOW! The word prolific springs to mind :SURPRISED:
Cotal, do you have Smuggling mod tech from Frogboy? That could be the missing one.

I'm still using 1.05 and I've never been brave enough to install a mod even though they look great! I'd really like a mod that adds some more interesting sound effects (like laughter for unsucessful planetary invasion by propoganda!) but I digress . . . LOL
Reply #750 Top
The Expansion pack was available for 1.05 and includes the Excalibur Ship... Truly Awesome, just make sure you get it before the other races otherwise its curtains... I did have one interesting game where The Dread Lords or Draginol surfaced and was playing 18 Excaliburs to invade their colony.. Load it up well worth it.
