Problem with the first mission in Twilight of the Arnor campaign

Hi guys,

 

I am a noob to this game (just bought it off digital download). I was happily 'influencing' the drengins when suddenly a Dread lord ship with 182 damage appeared and started to wipe out all my mines and ships. I was aghast! How do I beat this level with this ship wandering around all the time? The dreadlord started out with a planet to the south and a similar ship to the one mentioned above defending the planet, so I couldn't take him out. I couldn't talk to them either as they didn't appear in the diplomacy screen.

 

Any help is appreciated..

You need to swarm the Dreadlord ship. Research logistics and create a "Death by a 1000 pinpricks" fleet...

Yes, the strategy to use here is the obvious one, which you might tend to overlook just because it's obvious. You need to swarm it using lots of your ships.

When I played that mission on Challenging, I actually wiped out the Drengin first, and then took my time creating big, powerful ships, three of which could take out one Drengin ship.

Right. So speed is the key. I simply didn't expect the Dreadlord to attack me. I will concentrate on taking Drengins out first this time. Then i should have no problems taking out the dreadlord even if it decides wipe out everything on the map.
