Are you Jesus

I have never met the man Jesus-bar-Yahweh
I was not there 2000 years ago when he was
hung from the cross and was pierced through
his heart and bled to wash our sins from the
sight of the Father

but when I was a boy of ten banging a rock
to break the lock from the dumpster to search
for my daily meal, He came to me and opened the
lid where I found a treasure of Twinkies and
a navy pea coat to keep me warm

he didn’t look like Jesus, he changed his name to Gus
and wore bums clothes and he smelled bad
through the ragged remains of his teeth he whispered
comfort and told me not to give up

when I was 13 running from the cops and hiding
in burned out tenements and sleeping with both eyes
open, he came dressed in the cloth of law keepers
and drove me to the shelter where he shifted into
a person named marry rose and gave a bed and warm
soup

the night, in high school, when I lost my knee to
a wrongful block in a game of football, I screamed
and cried and cursed and promised
revenge, I found him kneeling by my side and heard him
soothing my anger and then helping me off the field
his name was Stewart and he spit tobacco over the
giant belly that hung over his belt

when I ended up in jail at 21, he was there waiting
in my cell with two of his homies, I was scared
he said he was called chewy , a "longo" from birth
he gave me cigarettes and told me I could do this
time “standing on my head”

when my mom fought colon cancer and periodically
vacated her bowels from the chemo-induced strokes
and she felt shame I watch him clean her and comfort
her and promise her rest in the time to come, he said
his name was Otto and he taught school and worked
hospice for the dying

It is true, I have never known the man-god Jesus-bar-Yahweh
in his time so long ago, but if I look closely I see him
everyday quietly doing his work, he is rarely pretty and
often covered in the cloth of the common man
sometimes he stinks and is covered in tattoos and
odd piercings and sometimes he looks a lot like
you

Good post. You have "eyes that truly see"! That is my goal in life...to be Jesus for all I meet.

To be Jesus...and to see Jesus are two different things.
This was truly beautiful Johnny... To see Jesus is to see goodness...that is what you saw.
May you be blessed to continue seeing good things.

That one was brilliant Johnny. I hope this one makes it into the book. It should.
