Those of you with the 1.04 beta-- How do you like it? What have you noiticed that's different?

Just curious. I have the stardock central, but not

I've played it and enjoyed it. The game diff is definitely up, I had to step back and do some relearning as the AI is now much more challenging than in 1.02. It runs stable even with some Library mods installed.

I'm playing 1.04. Normal diff is a bit harder.

I get an occasional CTD that I can't reproduce.

My scores have tanked, because the point at which I can shift from manipulating the alien civs into leaving me alone and the point at which I can crush them is coming later in the game. This is largely because it isn't as easy to get them to leave me alone, and when they don't leave me alone, I know I'm at war.

I used to joke about the drengin behaving after I swatted them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. Now, I'm having to take a 2x4 to the Arceans on a regular basis.

Popup Target,
What level of difficulty did you used to play on?
Maybe you need to go down 1 level?

Anyone else have any reports on the beta?

Doug :)

Duglis: At the very beginning of tough. I've got the Arceans on Intelligent and everyone else set to Bright. I don't think I'd want to give up the challenge :)

Congrats on your bravery. hehe

I'm definitely liking it. Getting rid of the star blockading cheese and infinite range colony ships are worth the price of admission alone. All in all it just feels much more balanced now and I'm enjoying struggling out of a bad starting position way more than I used to.

Does purchasing a social project now update the planet's 'built projects' list correctly?

Is the progress bar on the Research screen back to functioning again?

I don't have 1.04 myself but I saw that was on the list of fixes.

I have no idea if this is relevant to the Research screen question, but somehow, no matter what I pick to research, the time to completion is 1000 turns. I am slightly in the red money-wise and I do complete techs after several turns anyway, so I'm not sure what is going on.

This game is also my first try at being evil ;). I hope I can keep it up.

In an unrelated vein, this is also the first game that I figured out how to assign points to things like defense, courage, etc. You see, on the main config screen for these things, it always says no points available. I though what the heck, I'll try to assign some anyway. Well, the first few times I tried to do so, I would just click the radio buttons next to stuff and the game would beep at me, so I gave up. This time I tried the reset button and viola! points! yay! :D

Otherwise, I am only a bit into the game and really have no strategy. I'm mucking about and having a good time trying to break my natural (boring) tendency to be good.

Citizen wilis111,

You must have your research spending slider set to zero.

Or are going back and forth over the -500 balance... that has the same effect, as no money goes toward anything other then bank balance until you are above -500.

Lol, I've never even seen the good UI, nevermind been good for the whole game. Somehow I managed to stay neutral in my first game but in the 20+ games since then I've always been evil, often getting the evil UI before first contact. I don't see how you goody-goodies can turn down those wonderful evil bonuses.
