Sense of scale?

Anyone else find that while watching the pre-rendered trailers in all their gigantic-shadow-of-the-colossus-esque glory, you find the actual gameplay to be lacking in scale? The one thing that drew me to Demigod in the first place was the sense of scale in those trailers (especially in the Rook's case) and I'm just not feeling it in the game the same way I did with the trailers.

An example would be the supposed "archers" firing out of the Rook's shoulder...we can only imagine how big the minotaurs are compared to humans or whatever is firing those arrows, but it would be nice to see some kind of units walking or scrambling around to get a better sense of scale.

It's also confusing because Regulus is humanoid, as is the Torch Bearer; yet neither of these guys would fit in the Rook's shoulder. Right now I like to convince myself that since they are "demigods", they are larger than regular humans; but it still needs proving.

the scale is already friggin big like unimaginally big heres a copy and paste from another thread which i talked about it

Cause the rook turned himself into his castle to protect his man and if u can fit around 5000 people or more in a castle u got the rook basically and if 5k people can fit in rook each 1 must be so small compared to the rest of the stage for example the minataur to a human he must be a skyscraper so a collosus would fit maybe smaller then the rook actually.

the same goes for supcome if u fixed the cam directly on the floor and looked at the size of tree to that of ur supreme commander then ur looked at a machine thats half the size of earth and extending into space the scale of SupCom engine is wierd

Strikersgun that's a huge scale but it's on paper.

A sense of scale is not given by text description of the background story, but what's shown on screen.

Currently Rook's size compared to buildings, and the smallest animate: minotaur is simply not conveying the sense of scale well. You would subconsciously tie a minotaur to human size. And in that sense, Rook is too small. There's no way you can fit 5000 minotaurs inside.

Trees in Supreme commander themselves are too small. You have to zoom in close to get a judge of scale. At normal zoom levels you pretty much would think they are bushes not trees. This destroys the effect of sense of scale. You end up comparing ships, experimentals, the commander and the tanks. To me ships and the commander are too small. (compare the size of tank to a frigate you will see)

**Wow Edit does work for me. Weird**

I kind of get the same feeling as you guys do regarding scale, things don't feel as massive as I'd like them to, but I think that a lot of it is a combination of these things interfering with the actual gameplay, and not being feasible to do while maintaining reasonable system requirements.

For what it's worth, I think the tower reaching above the clouds that you fight on for the beta has a nice dramatic feeling of being truly gargantuan.

Edit:  I think Demigod's scale feels larger than Supreme Commander's, personally.

I think that if they just lower the minotaur and archers size (b.t.h personly I think archers should be minotaur with bows) and spawn more of them would make things more right. Like in the early photos where you can see army of small minotaurs and the giant rook leading them instead of just fighting small groups.

I posting some photos you so can see what I mean: picture picture2 picture3

you can also see why I dont want those archers, its just look less messy, more clean.

End of X-Raider's quote

I personally don't think this would help.  I think it feels like the minotaurs are small rather than like the Demigods are gigantic, and I also think that removing archers would make the armies feel more generic.  An army which is 90% composed of little minotaurs isn't as interesting to watch as a diverse one.

well I wrote this by the first pictures we saw and I think the scale looked more massive in those sizes of units.

about the archers- I knew it will be said but that just my deal with game, I dont like to see too much diffrent units on screen, it make me confused:P
