Update error / LAN question

Hi I'm trying to update my Sins installation with Impulse and when the download finishes it says:  "File downloaded is larger than expected"

Also, does anyone have any tips about getting a LAN game to work without desyncs and minidumps?  I have yet to complete a multiplayer game without one of the two happening.  I have tried the game on 3 different computers in different combinations with the same results each time.  I realize the troubleshooting for this problem is ongoing but I would like to hear from anybody who does have it working properly.

Thanks a bunch

1. Disable all AV/security software when downloading the updates.

2.  LAN games (at least in my testing) have proven to desync more often in late-game scenarios and when there is a significant hardware difference between participants.

So an internet/TCP game through Ironclad has a greater chance of success than a LAN game?  I have been putting off buying a second copy because I have yet to get the multiplayer to work.

Oh, for some reason when I started Impulse just now it downloaded and installed the update properly this time.  I have no idea why it works now and didn't work yesterday but at least it works.

In my experience and testing....

the generic game crash (referred to as a "mini-dump") most often happens for one of the following reasons:

1.  System drivers, OS, etc. are out-dated/corrupted.

2.  Due to late-game stresses on CPU/RAM etc. if the systems involved are "too different" from each other (hardware) this tends to increase the chances of a desync thus increasing the chances of a "mini-dump" (lan or online doesn't seem to matter)

3.  Using MODS can sometimes cause this type of behaviour.  Some MODS introduce things to your game that might cause additional stresses to the game resulting in a game crash.

Please keep in mind that any troubleshooting you're doing here should be done with an UN-MODDED SINS installation.  MOD troubleshooting is the responsibility of the mod creator.

The systems i tested on were all combinations of any two of: AMD 6000+ dual core, a Core2Duo T8300, and a Pentium 4 3.0 Prescott.  All with 2 gigs ram.

I don't have any mods installed yet.  I usually got minidump crashes when playing between the AMD and Pentiun 4 systems.  The last game I tried was the AMD vs the Core2Duo which resulted in increasing desync after about 5-10 minutes and complete separation somewhere around the 30 min mark ( his computer said I was defeated, I was winning on mine.  )  I could still add bounty & give money & minerals but the bounty screen showed incorrect amounts.
