I think we can launch several games. I want to start a masochistic one maybe in this friday.

Ohhhh...... not played at that high a level yet..... I've just moved up to all AI's at Bright! Normal just wasn't fun anymore! However, now that I've got a credible early game strategy going, and I now have a grips on what's happening, I should be moving up the levels!

I'll give your masochistic a go! Might be interesting.

More likely than not that i'll lose masochistic challenge, but i'm interesting who'll win.

I found the last one too easy anyway, it came just as I'd declared normal difficulty way too easy to beat!

By the way, thanks for any future help, but there is not much to do for now IMHO. But if you have some ideas, anything is welcome.

I've been trying to think about how to score the games. Only problem is trying to come up with some method that allows for comparison of scores between game endings.

If we get loads of players that's not a problem, but if there's not too many then we may have to start limiting what we'll accept as winning conditions.

Actually, I'm not sure how the game works out it's scores, but couldn't we use those on an interim basis?

Whichever one suits best.

We could possibly do with a load more game saves.... so if anyones listening.....

Even if it's just for this one time, please play our game!

Standart game score = 'End of Turn' competition. That's the problem. But already suggested scores aren't that bad. http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86110

//If we get loads of players that's not a problem, but if there's not too many then we may have to start limiting what we'll accept as winning conditions.//

Why? This is intended just for fun. It's good to get some score, but it's more interesting just to play and see how others playing.

I just thinking of fair comparison between winning types might be difficult to achieve. If in a challenge we specify that it's a military win competition, then everyone's marching to the same tune, so to speak.

Actually, I've just read that back to myself. That's a little strong isn't it? "competition" "Marching", hmmmm maybe I'm just a little too competitive!

Yes I know it's intended for fun, but give people a chance and they'd compete over anything!

As for using the standard game score, or a Metaverse one (or the other ones), well why not? Stardock are already doing the work balancing them out. Do we need to make up our own? Just download the last turn save, hit next turn and use the metaverse score. The score shouldn't vary too much, but then I don't submit to the metaverse.....

"As for using the standard game score, or a Metaverse one (or the other ones), well why not?"

Indeed. We could also just use that scoring method (instead of the 'least number of turns'). I still think that there should be 'winners' for every victory condition.

And for the masochistic challenge: If you make a savegame, I am willing to give it a try. But I doubt how many turns I will last :D . Could you also make a nice 'intro story' to put on the website?

I'm from Russian Federation and my engish isn't that good to write a story.

When you say "into story", what do you mean? A short current game intro story, or just something galciv themed?

I'd be willing to give writing one a go.... or to proofread anything that anyone else writes.

Ok, if you want me to do it, I can write a small intro story and put it on the website, and include the savegame. I can also make a savegame if you have some cool ideas about the specifications: large galaxy, masochistic etc. (what kind of setup for the humans, what kind of stars).

Starvald: something like:

http://galciv.reallyrules.com/may2003.htm

would be cool for players new to the GOTM challenge. That way they get a feeling for the game that hopefully interests them enough to give it a try. It might be the easiest if the one who makes the savegame writes it. I wouldn't mind doing both, but i haven't got a clue what kind of masochistic game you want me to make :D

Ellestar: you can also make a cool masochistic game, and I can write an intro for it.

Ok i'll start it but i wanted to hear suggestions of other players.

I started a tread here at this forum

Ah, when you said story I thought you meant.... well, a story.

What I think would be fun would be having a universalist pick and a +25% luck pick. You could have an award for the most outrageous number of events to happen to a player!

Your links don't work for me. Maybe you meant:

For the masochistic challenge, it would probably also be a good idea to have +1 to speed... (i really like that one)

Anyone experienced weird connection problem?
When I try to connect to galciv.reallyrules.com, the browser always redirects to http://www.web1000search.com/index.asp?id=tzh.
Could anyone explain this to me?
