Can't break alliance? (slight spoiler)

Basically, I'm trying to blow up the sun with the terror star on mission 9, I guess, but it keeps telling me that I need to break my alliance with the iconians before I can attack them, and I have no option to break my alliance. I don't know how I can beat them mission. In fact, I'm not even 100% sure of the victory conditions because they go off screen, but I know I'm supposed to blow up the planet (or the sun which the planet orbits) with the terror star, right? any help would be appreciated.

Well, if you restart the mission and hurry up and colonize all planets in that system you won't have that issue. Just make sure you also colonize a planet outside of that system or else you'll get a defeat message after blowing up the star.

Alternatively, you could try to influence flip thier planets to you.

You cannot break the alliance since you are on a team with them.
