[IDEA] The Precise Nature Of Command

Generalship in Demigod...

The Precise Nature Of Command

I had an interesting thought occur to me regarding A.I. command in this unusual and fantastic rts game.

What if Demigods who had the capacity to directly command troops could only do so via Order abilities which they develop as skills in their skill trees?

I think it has potential to offer players the task of unlocking their command capabilities just as a Rook unlocks his mighty powers, or as the Torch-Bearer unlocks his spells.

And requiring the expenditure of Energy on a per command basis would add a measure of calculation and *control* to the otherwise usual rts patterns. Could be an extremely effective mechanic.

This  is already there plan.  Currently the four demigods are "assassins".  They focus on personal combat.  The other four demigods are generals.  They can recriut their own army and command them.  They upgrade units and can appluy buffs or healing.

@ Trigeminal: If I understand Warlok's idea, it would be a bit like Darwinia in that the orders you give to your creeps would become available only as you level.  Skill tree would include creep commands like "attack," "move," and "guard" and would cost mana.

The idea is pretty novel, but I'm not sure it applies in this setting.   Maybe if you were looking at controlling all nearby allied creeps, not just the uniques you command normally, or if all demis started as assassins and could level into generals.  As it currently stands, however, generals are defined by their ability to buff and create unique creeps.  Making creep commands level and mana-dependent will only frustrate the player, although I guess we'll have to see what the devs have come up with in Beta 2 for hybridizing the classes.
