Reusable Transports

A month after I got my roommate hooked on GalCiv2, he suggested a reusable transport module. A troop module that takes up a lot of space, costly, holds few troops, but can be reused so as to not build transports constantly. I think this is not a bad idea, but a potential side effect is that someone can just load up five battleships with reusable transports and then mass driver many planets in a row in a "genocide" run. Since he's too lazy to get an account and I didn't find any similar discussion, I'm throwing the idea out there. Thoughts?

A way to avoid the "genocide run" problem would be to have the transports get destroyed if every soldier on them dies on the planet. But I agree with your (and your roommate's) point. If you conquor(sp?) a planet, your transport should be in orbit over that planet afterwards.

Consider this though, you don't pay any maintenance on transports unless you add weapons to them.  So long as you have some worlds cranking out replacement transports, the loss of however many transports it takes to conquer a world is a minor thing.

I think using mass drivers should cost a bit more than it does at the moment.  You get a whole lot of bang for your bc with it at the moment.
