Fall of the Wicked

Shortly after developing our interstellar capabilities, the Federation was pleasantly suprised to encounter 4 yellow class star systems within our own sector. Immediately, we began leasing colony ships to take advantage of these systems as quickly as possible. It's true we were accruing a defecit not seen on Earth since 21st century America, but as the leader of Humanity I knew that not taking advantage of what was obviously a gift from the gods would be ignorant.
During what came to be called the Colonization Era, our species was only able to take control of 2 sectors. But with 8 star systems in those sectors, we were quickly becoming a galactic force. The effects of our influence over the other known cultures of the galaxy were seen immediately. We were even able to develop trade and diplomacy with 2 distant civilizations, the Alterians and the Torians, who had similar moral values.
Our closest neighbors, however, the filthy Drengin and the soulless Yor, quickly became jealous of our society and began making demands of us. Humanity is a peace loving civilization. We have overcome the wars and bloodshed which has plauged our race from it's very beginnings. As such, we no longer felt it necessary to pump money into the research and production of military units. We weren't prepared to fight these heathens.
We gave into their demands for money and technology time and time again while secretely constructing defensive and offensive capabilities. Short of star systems, we gave them anything they wanted. I was disgusted with myself for putting our grand civilization into this situation of cowardice. I vowed to never again let humankind be bullied by the evil currently infiltrating our galaxy.
Our friends were much much weaker than us when the Drengin and Yor began to terrorize their innocence. I would not let what little light shined in this galaxy fall forever to the darkness. I began supplying them with defensive capabilities so the 3 star systems inhabitated between them would not fall. I knew that our survival depended very heavily on the well being of our galactic brethren.
We had already set up vast trade routes between all three of our civilizations which quickly led to economic prosperity between all our peoples. The military might of humanity began to rival that of the Yor and Drengin. The key to our fortune lied in the fact that we only controlled 2 sectors and as such, only needed to construct 2 star bases to maximize our economic, manufacturing, and defensive capabilities. A day would come when they would pay for earlier indiscretions against my people.
Then it happened, a galactic war the likes which had never been seen before and would never be seen again. The Drengin and Yor declared war on the Federation as well as the Alterians and Torians who at that point had become our allies. I sent what little offensive ships we had manufactured to our brothers on the other side of the galaxy but it was us who took the brunt of the attacks. We lost only a couple BattleHammers during attack after attack on our worlds. Our starships proved to be a key force in protecting our civilization.
The number of ships lost by the Drengin and Yor was quite staggering. This gave me an idea. I would cripple their economy so they would never be able to build such an impressive fleet again. I sent out smaller attack vessels to search for and destroy enemy freighters. It sickened me to resort to a strategy which caused the death of thousands of innocent traders but for the good of the Light it had to be done. I would found out a few months later that it had the intended effect.
It wasn't much later that a meeting between all the major forces in the galaxy was called. Their was a proposal for a galactic holiday which would last 3 years and increase morale of all galactic citizens. We were gathering to decide how much money each civilization would spend. Suddenly it dawned upon me. This may be our chance to tip the scale from Darkness to Light forever. I knew the Drengin and Yor had wasted countless resources attacking my worlds. I also knew that my most recent tactic had crippled their trade. My galactic influence was far grander than any other so whatever I voted for would almost assuredly become policy.
If I voted for the maximum contribution, it would put my civilization slightly into debt but, with the current economy of the Drengin and Yor, it would probably cripple them. While I hadn't bothered to check how much money was in their reservers I knew it couldn't be much after this costly war and the destruction of their trade routes. My only concern was how this would affect my allies. I took a chance and voted for 1,000.
I immediately checked the reserves of all civilizations in the galaxy and smiled at what I found. The Yor and Drengin were so far in debt it was unlikely they would ever recover. My allies were in the green and I was barely in the red. I could pull us out of debt in a matter of 6 months.
Knowing that our enemies were vulnerable, I unleashed our civilizations secret weapon. A fleet of Dreadnoughts we had hidden on a remote colony began making it's way into enemy territory followed by a flotilla of combat transports. World after enemy world fell to the might of humanity. It was the year 2199 when our grand empire and its noble allies conquered the last enemy colony. The galaxy rejoiced. I sat in my chamber and quitly wept for what I had done. I had destroyed 2 entire species and lost many of our brave citizens in the process. Never again would I allow this to happen. I ordered the destruction of the dreadnoughts and vowed that I would lead the galaxy to an era of unending peace and prosperity.
