Most dreams are wmv or mpeg already. Look into %programdata%\Stardock\DeskScapes\ExtractedData. For dynamic dreams, there is this but it only works with free ones (support for commercial ones is still buggy - it will only work for some of them).

Remember that most content is only licensed for private non commercial use. See here for another discussion of that.

You first need to load a dynamic dream with deskscapes (this will extract the contents to %programdata%\Stardock\DeskScapes\ExtractedData).

Then navigate to the ExtractedData directory. There should be 2 dll files (one for 32bit and another for 64bit). The one you want is the 32bit one.

Open a command line prompt and navigate to the ExtractedData directory. Launch nightmares with the following arguments:

Nightmares -i <path to the 32bit dll> -o <name of the AVI file you want to ouput to>

This will load the dream and save the output to a video file. You can also set a different window size (defaults to 800x600). Please note that by default it will store uncompressed frames and will results in a huge file (and I mean huge!). You can optionally pass a FOURCC code (this is used to select the codec to compress the video). What codec is available will depend of the codecs installed on you computer. If you have FFDShow installed, you can pass FFDS and use FFDShow configuration window to adjust encoding paremeters.

I wrote that little utility mainly to test dynamic dreams more easily and the video output was added later as a request, so everything has to be done from the command line and there is no user friendly UI unfortunately.

Let me know if you need any more help! And I'm curious to know what dream you want to record and why >_>

Did u mean that if i can't load the dream with deskscape, then I can't use Nightmare???

I wan to extract dream because my PC not support Aero, and with no Aero , Deskscape can't run and............dream not able to go to my deskstop. So i want the dream to be convert to AVI so i can put it on my MP4 to enjoy(My MP4 can support AVI....but not dream format)

I don't know if the dreams are extracted before or after the check for Aero. Do you have any subfolders in the ExtractedData directory?

For video dreams, this is as simple as getting the mpeg or wmv inside and converting them to your player format (I assume you already know how to do that).

For protected dynamic dreams, I guess the activation is taking place after the check for Aero so you won't be able to run them (while I'm not doing any checks in Nightmares, the dreams themselves need the sig.bin file). You can activate manually from the command line, but it's different for each dream and you have to know the app id and everything.

For other dynamic dreams, Nightmares should work just fine.

If you can't extract them on your Vista computer, you can always go to a friend, install DeskScapes, extract the dreams there and copy the files back to your Computer... Or wait for DeskScapes XP, it shouldn't be long now :|

BTW the few dynamic dreams on Wincustomize mostly have flash previews, so you can work from that.

If there is no ExtractedData folder, then it seems that it checks for Aero before doing anything else.

My bad, I seemed to remember them having big flash previews when in fact they don't or it shows desktop icons and such. Sorry!

Nevermine, I will try to ask my friend for help by lending his PC to extract dream.

And I hope that deskscape for XP will release soon  . And thanks for the replies.
