[SUGGESTION] Replay Exports

Promotion opportunity

Replay Exports

Before I get to that, I just wish to say how thoroughly rewarding it is to behold an "Awards" screen that actually contains appellations of some merit & meaning - I could actually clearly recall how the various participants garnered their titles. And giving bonus 'accomplishment points' is the appropriate icing on this part of the cake, giving some tangible meaning to such. Yeehah. Anyway...

I would very much love to see the ability to save a Replay of any given game as a self-contained commonly available movie file or self-playing .exe file, so I can send the film of the thrilling Demigod gameplay to my friends, thus ensnaring them in the game. I believe this would generate a great deal of enthusiasm across a vast realm of players, given the community`s enthusiasm for the game. Just to be clear, this would be something independent of Demigod - a movie file that plays with a common (!) codec in Mediaplayer, or its own movie file executable.

I would like to see this as well.

I don't know about turning them into video files, but you should definitely be able to save replays of matches.  That way players will be able to watch replays of expert players fighting and learn from them.

replays are already saved as lastgame.forge (or something like that) in mygames/gaspowered/demigod and will be fully implemented later, they are buggy currently anyways.

Yeah, and actually making a video as you play could be pretty tough on your computer.

The current replays could simply be converted to a movie format after the game shuts down (or opt to do so manually in a game menu, much like the file manager for savegames in Sins Of A Solar Empire.

My point with this was to entice those who do *not* play Demigod to try doing so after bearing witness to some good gameplay that we may capture.

You must have the game installed to view replays. They fundamentally lose a major part of what they are if you make them into videos. In a replay you can view that battle from whatever angle you want, etc, and the file is tiny. In a movie, you're stuck with the original viewer's viewpoint, and the file is massive. You can't just make a replay into an exe, you'd need ALL the game's data, so GB.

Yeah, replays aren't videos, they are a list of all the commands that players gave in the match, which the game then recreates.

So then create a bit of code that tracks & records what the player`s camera perspective was, and recreate that in a non-interactive video file. The point then being said player can position the camera view to capture great game moments and be assured that those can be relayed to those who might be enticed.

Eh. I don't really see that as a big deal. If you want a video, fraps it.

I mean, player's views arnt exactly the most exciting. Look at SupCom. Watching someone play is only so cool, watching a replay or video someone MADE is sick.
