for newbie player
will you recommend tiny or large map?

The larger the easier, the more habitable planets the easier... Easiest is: Gigantic Map with Abundant number of Good Planets.

Actually I would recommed a small map with AI set to the easiest setting. You might also want to go for a 'good' alignment. This way you can get a feeling for the game, and meet the AI players quick so you get to know how they react.

I would suggest a small or medium map in the beginning, and AI levels low. I started like this to learn the game and to try out the various strategy possibilities. Then you can choose map size that best fits you, as well trying out higher AI Levels.

Its too hard to keep track of everything on a large map, stick to the small maps at first. The bigger maps are better once when you get the hang of things.
