Sins claims 4 awards at IGN

In the individual system awards over at IGN, Sins has swept the competition!

It has picked up:

Best Strategy

Most Innovative Design

Best New IP

PC Game of the Year

(Runner up in Best Multiplayer)

IGN's final say on Sins beating out rivals such as Fallout 3, GTA IV, Warhammer Online and Left 4 Dead

This is a controversial choice, to be sure, as many games scored higher than Sins of a Solar Empire. Yet during our discussions it was the one game we kept coming back to; considering it shipped way back in February that was telling. This is the game that we may have easily played the most in 2008. It's that much fun. It's also a game that has had incredible post-release support in the form on free enhancements and additions from developer Ironclad Studios, which proved to be the little studio that could. Thanks to its wildly original and fresh take on RTS and its compelling gameplay that kept us up late at nights, this is our PC game of the year.

Well deserved it must be said! So how many gongs does that make for Sins so far?

For Immediate Release

In celebration of this unprecendented success, IronClad and StarDock announced today that they will be giving free copies of Entrenchment and the next two mini-expansions to lucky registered users. The first person to receive this is patkhoo, who said in response to hearing the good news, "I Lurve Sins!"

IGN also forgot to mention that it cost less than $1 million to develop, took on a totally new idea and name (didn't have a franchise to lean to), and yet earned them a good share. It didn't have DRM, and neither did it whine about piracy.

All that in a year where everyone argued PC gaming is crap? For those achievements alone, it deserves being the PC Game of the Year.

The little company that could? More like the little company that DID.

Congrats Ironclad and Stardock. You deserve it.

Congratulations all around for a fantastic effort,Now there is a real need to sort out online issues as they do detract from the overall experience, apart from that My patience is a virtue and hope the ball gets a rolling along re the issues.

Those are key points that I wish IC and or SD will emphasize with any follow-up interviews or articles on all the awards. It is sad with all the awards action going on that such things are not even given token lip service. To me it is telling of the media industry in general but that is an argument for another day...

Sins doesn't have DRM but it has constant updates that can only be accessed from Impulse. Like it or not, that has been a successful combination for sales versus piracy which in turn keeps the good stuff coming.

A recent example, World of Goo, has showed that devs/publishers can't be that user-friendly. However, Sins has demonstrated that users can still be well served while avoiding overbearing DRMs.

Cheers!

Great job to all who worked on developing and supporting this game.  To beat out the likes of companies like Valve and Rockstar is nothing to sneeze at.

Oh, and Happy Holidays.  Hopefully this news will mean a nice BIG bonus check in your stocking.

I would like to congrat those at Ironclad and Stardock, for their efforts in Sins :)

Hopefully in next year with future fixes and features as well as Entrenchment along the way to continue the success that you have recieved so far.

Thanks guys/girls for bringing us SINS :)
