Brad's BETA 2 Bug / Suggestion List

For those of you who are new to Stardock beta programs, we will often post in our own forums the bugs and suggestions we have on the games to let other users discuss them.  This was done with GalCiv and Sins of a Solar Empire with very good effect.

Below are some of the bugs / suggestions I (personally) ran into with ideas I think would help the game without making radical changes.  I'm speaking only for myself, not Stardock here so feel free to debate/discuss as you see fit.

 

1. Lobby needs a chat area that lists players and chat messages.  

2. Selecting hero UI issue (known).

3. New Game Option: All flags start out neutral.

4. New Game Option: War Ranking pacing (slow, medium, fast). Determines how quickly the war ranks progress. (already in)

5. New Game Option: Flag Power (low, medium, high). Determines the amount flags will effect the game.

6. New Game Option: Leveling (Epic, Normal, Hyper). Determines how much XP you need to go up a level. Already in

6a. New Game Option: Starting Reinforcements (2, 4, 8). Determines how many creeps come out of the portal at the start.

6b. New Game Option: Minion base Armor (Light, Medium, Heavy). Determines how tough the creeps are. (already in)

7. Flags need descriptions (known).

8. Clicking on an opposing Demigod should show what they are equipped with.

9. Selection issues (known)

10. Minions of generals should not give out XP when they are killed.

11. Minions of generals should have 2X as many HP for starters.

12. Minions should move as fast as the general (if general is moving fast, so do the minions).

13. Reinforcements from neutral portals should do 4X damage to structures as they currently do.

13a. Alternatively, eliminate neutral portals and replace with flags that affect gameplay.

14. All arenas should have at least 1 flag of experience that causes that team's Demigods to get XP at 3X the normal rate when it's captured.

15. Creeps that your Demigod (or minions) get the last hit on prove bonus gold to that player.

16. There should be very expensive items that allow the Demigod to do 4X damage to structures.

16a. AI should be careful about following a weakened enemy too far to avoid being led to its doom.

17. Wish List

a. Move the Favor Item to the left side and provide 2 more item slots.

b. New Item: Demolitions. Does N points of damage to a structure, is consumed.

c. New Item: Wand of Denial. Cast on friendly creeps that causes those creeps to not provide any XP to the enemy when killed. 30 second cool down.

d. New Item: Want of Learning. Cast on Enemy Creeps, doubles the XP they provide when killed.

e. New Items: Various anti-stun items that reduce stun times or have a chance of avoiding stun entirely.

f. New Item: Ring of Reflection: When activated, causes all missile damage to bounce back at enemy for 20% damage while leaving player unharmed. Lasts 5 seconds, 30 second cool down.

g. New Items: Items that reduce cool downs of abilities and summonings.

I am getting a strange sound "popping" problem where I get a loud static sound when there's a bunch of things going on at the same time on the screen. Not only that, but I have noticed that the voices sometimes repeat themselves, a sound loop bug. Is this a known problem?

21. In game commands to see your armor reduction, movement speed, attack speed, ect.

if you open the character screen, there is a minimize icon left to the close menu (x) buttton, it shows your most important stats in a small box in the lower left on the screen then.

In order to improve balance, would like to see QoT and Sedna in the game.

The packing / unpacking mechanic of QoT  is going to need balancing, for starters and it would be useful to be able to test that as early as possible.

What do you all think of War Rank being based off your teams cumulative earned War Score? It'd be independent for each team, increase the rate of available upgrades and increase the strategy related to flags.

This would be great. Also, as per Unknown, maybe have kills increase it - but, make it the kills that currently, have very little reward compared to the time and effort it takes to get them. I'm talking about Towers and Static defenses. If killing Towers has a big War Score impact, "siege" skilled demigods will have greater application.

On another note, if you want an item that can repair towers - there's another thing the Universal Gadget could do. It's universal!

5. hmmm i really think it flags should be set to a standart influence on a game, otherwise its just be harder to practice certain strategies that will involve them because of the diference from host to host.

10. Think its a bit early to deicde. You should leve this for the moment more pvp games will be possible.

11. Again balance issue on wich i canot expres myself, but i realy think that every minion should do hes work in a balanced manner, sayng that all minions need 2xhp might be exagerated, this should differ from minion to minion.

13 4x might be exagerated altho those towers are a bit thought.

13a. really don't know what to say atm.

14. Yep would be nice, but it will make the early game demigods a bit imba id say.

As for the stalemate problem I found that setting the death time to mean, setting the war idol increase rate to high and the towers to low strengh helped alot.  The main problem with setting the towers to low strenth though is that they fall too fast to other demigods.  I think the anwser is to make the siege creeps more powerful.

DatonKallandor has a very good idea about giving War Score for tower destruction.  However, the reward should only be for natural towers, not the Rook's created ones.  A 'siege' demigod could launch an attack away from the main battle.  This would result in forcing the other team to decide between getting XP and gold by fighting, or preventing their opponents from getting War Score.

 

As for Brad's Ideas:

 

8.) Interesting, but what about a 'spy' research with a level for each non-consumeable item slot.  I think upgrade screen currently has room between the respawn and creep number improvement upgrades.  Each level could reveal a new slot, from least expensive item to most expensive item. Ex a demigod has three items with the values of 1000, 2500, 2000.  Three levels of 'spy' would reveal all three items, two levels would reveal only the 1000 and 2000 valued items

 

11.) Playing as Regulus against hard AI generals I don't agree.  If anything, minions should start out weeker in health and damage but be much stronger late game.

 

13.) Making them spawn more high end creeps migh work just as well.  It would also put more value on them as a game gets longer.  What about making waves larger if a team controls all the neutral portals?

 

16.)  Yes, but it might also be a good idea to make the 4x item cheaper but locked by War Rank.  This would allow a team with an obvious advantage to end the game sooner.

a - Sounds good

b - not sure, what about a consumable giving all nearby friendly units a bonus against structures for around 10 seconds?  Or it could cause a single non-citadel structure to take extra damage.

d - Might be a bit overpowed if your team also has an experiance flag depending on how the multiples stack - a total of 4x XP would be decent and reward a team, 6x XP would probably cause an imbalance

e - item that blocks a stun every 30 seconds or so would be useful

f - make it so it only works against towers, otherwise ranged demigods will have a large problem with melee.  Of course having a similar ring for melee dmage might balance that out a bit.

d - cooldown boosting items would be nice, items that increase the range abilities can be targeted at would be even better.  Also demigod specific Favor items would add a lot to the game - such as Regulus getting an item to increase line of sight and attack range, Generals could get items that give their unique minions a boost.  Finally, having unique Favor items unlcoked by achievements would be interesting, such as Regulus getting an item that cuts the cooldown for Snipe by a large amount as a reward for the killing 15 demigod with Snipe achievement.  This would give players a reson to try and get the achievements as currently a player can get 300 total points for just winning one game with each demigod.  Or Favor points could be unique to each demigod.

When retreating and you activate Speed Wand, the DemiGod stops running requiring you to command him to move again.  When activating the Speed Wand it should increase speed without canceling the pior command.  The reason this is a problem is because when the DemiGod stops before you can give another move command may bring you in range of a range attack.

I was casting a fireball on a DemiGod and halfway through casting the DemiGod teleported back to base.  When my fireball finally casted, the fireball tracked the demigod all the way back to the base for the kill.  I understand that there should be an allowable distance outside of the the intial range of the spell but there should be a max range so if the DemiGod retreats outside of that range, the spell fails.

It might simply be easier to interrupt the spell casting in progress if the target teleports - but if the spell is already on the way, and the target teleports the spell will follow. That should cut down the telekill, but still leave room for well executed assassinations (see snipe for the ultimate example of that).

Oak 10 sec of immune might be tad too much as you can buy all dps item and make oak kill everything. I was in a 5 unclean beast vs 5 oak game and it was so painful. *I was on the side of unclean beast* The reason why it was painful? They could keep pushing too much and the unclean beast AI was not doing anything about it. In the end i had to grab everything item that give unclean beast enough tank to solo the citadel on my own. Yes that right unclean beast can solo pwn! :borg:

Well, 5 Unclean Beast vs 5 Oak isn't exactly a representative game. Oak's are Generals, while the Unclean Beast is one of the most single-target focused Assassins.

I never said it was a representative game. Just image 5 oak vs a mixed team of player. Even that would be painful because with 5 unclean beast we was beating down oak left and right only to have them active the 10 sec immune each min or so.

I am one for a lot of game customization, so if given the chance I would like to have map options for a lot of the things that are discussed in here.  Someone mentioned the lobby showing game options.  I would like to see several different 'types' of matches available.  Say 3 or 4 preset types: Casual, Competitive, Something1, Something2, and Custom.  I don't know enough about the game to give an educated opinion on the gold vs war score debate, but my thought was let the gold be included in a casual game type and the war score be in the competitive game type.  I'm sure that opens up a huge can of worms as far as balance and polish time constraints go.  However, I have a couple different sets of friends that I would love to play this with.  I hate to say it, but one set would need the mechanics of the game dumbed down a bit in order to play.  My other set of friends would love the idea of the added complexity.

10, 11, & 12:  I've played a couple games against the computer and it had tons of minions.  So much so that I just pretty much had to run in fear, and they seemed to be very tough to me.  I just don't think it's a good idea to make them tougher and then also not give any xp for them.  I have mixed feelings on the movement speed too.  If you have a fast demigod with fast minions and you're a slow demigod with no minions you could get ganked pretty quickly.  When I did play that senario I was glad that his movement would out-pace his minions when he went charging for me.

Stun (I don't have a good idea as to what is implemented, so this is just my general ideas on it):  Personal pref is that stun doesn't make the demigod stop, but rather slows them quite a bit.  Stun shouldn't stack and should have a cool-down on it being cast on a particular demigod so that a demigod cannot be stunned over and over again forever (and a context cursor showing that time would be nice too).

Hello kBessa. Here are a few thing you can try.

1) Rename the folder. You could use Configuracoes locais, without the accents, or perhaps the English: 'local setting's. If there are any problems with your other programs, then simply rename it back to the original, and you should be fine.

2) Create a new folder in kBessa, named 'local settings'.  The game may use this folder, and pass it through to the next. Again, if there are any probs, delete it. You can also try the Portugese without the accents.

3) If neither of these work, then you may be able to set your own download path. I have only done this as far as changing the drive that the proggie was downloaded to; I'll have to do some research in order to find out if you can set the path all the way to the end.

I am no expert. I am just someone who enjoys a good puzzle, and is trying to help. Hopefully, someone who has solved this problem will reply and give you the solution. (Perhaps one of our Scandinavian friends)

I give these suggestions because, as diligent as Stardock is, it is more likely that you will find a solution at your end before they give one to you.

Yep, I've done the first method once, but then other apps had problems with it, and I need them for work, so it's better not playing Demigod for now than not working (I need money).

I'll try the other methods, but it is just a remainder for them to fix it in next releases, as I don't think anybody will want the final game to have the same problems.

Are you by any chance utilizing onboard (Realtek) sound? I recently upgraded my mobo, and tried out the onboard. I had the same problem that you are reporting. I reverted to my venerable old Soundblaster 2, and the problems went away.

I think minions should get whatever bonuses((relatively speaking) the General is getting from items. Since he is meant to be all about buffing auras. 

Maybe their strength is a % of the General's strength. So the stronger the General becomes, so do the minions.

16a. This is a killer for AI, they will follow you blindlessly into your base.

Another bug here is that they also seem to randomly walk up and attack your base with no creeps around in a suicide attempt, this gets them killed a lot, this also makes AI unable to be played in games where its player(s) Vs player(s) because you can simply wait for when the AI suicidally attack your base (know that they will do this several times) and then just walk up and finish them with a nuke to get all the gold.

8. This is another one I would badly like to see done as I would really badly like to know what all other Demigod's have as their items.

I would just like the game to launch without looking at my windows desktop.  Does anyone know if any other software that conflicts or a windows update.  I am frustrated because this is the first software that doesn't run on my machine. Beta 1 thru 1c ran great no issues.
