Unilateral GG

Hey so without a postgame or general chat lobby I don't really get to say this, but if I played you this weekend or if I play you before they patch one in:

GG

Dunno why just seems wrong not to say it, win or lose...

People throw GG around them way to much these days.

In fact one could probably set up a graph over the evolution of GG starting with warcraft II where GG ment "Good Game", a game where both parts enjoyed it to todays where GG means "Game Over" or "You won", dosn't have to have anything to do with the game being good at all.

It's called good sportsmanship.

It was a good game, whether you won or lost.

Yeah, in Supcom at least, you say GG regardless of how good the game was (as long as no one cheated or was insulting or anything like that).  It shows that you are either not a sore loser or aren't real arrogant from winning.  It is recognizing that the other person tried their best, or was deserving of the win.

But if you played horribly bad, or if your opponent played like your granma (the one who can t understand what is a "remote controler" for her TV), do you say "GG" ? It's not good sportsmanship, it's just a lie.

If you say "GG" when the winnig was really close, it's like a mark of respect for your opponent. Something like "I don't care about winning, loosing, or anything less. That was a great moment. Thanks for this".

"GG" has lost all of it meaning for me.

PS : Sorry for my bad english = /

I see it this way:

If I steamrolled you I'm going to say GG in recognition of your effort and to show I don't take the victory for granted.

If you steamrolled me I'm going to say GG because hopefully I've learned something from the experience, and I appreciate you sharing your skills.

If it was closely fought to the end I'm going to say GG because it was a Good Game.

GG is shorthand for "I respect you as an opponent" and I actually felt bad when I didn't get to say it.

I don't think we played yet, Teseer.  You have had games up but I can never connect to them.  :annoyed:

imo gg is good sportsmanship

mb it was sth special when people didnt use to say it in the beginning, but today its meaning is more like a shake-hands after a tennis match.

same as gl hf in the beginning of a match...

Same. I try and get the phrase in (or something longhand but similar in meaning) in before the citadel falls when I play. It's the sign of a good sport, and it shows you're not bitter about losing/arrogant about winning.

It's a nice way to say "thank you for playing with me, I had fun". It's not obligatory if you didn't have fun, but don't kick up a fuss about it.

I always say gg at the end of the game when I lost (unless it is versus my brother, then I just stand up, walk 10 meter and try to throw him out of the window), it may be not always accurate in the original meaning of the phrase but as long as someone comes up with a better phrase I'll use it even if it was a bad game.

I don't like people who write gg first when the won a game.

yah, you have to let the loser say it first...

I like it when someone thinks they won, says "GG, surrender plz!" and then they lose ;P
