Installation problems

I am having a problem installing my copy of Sins. I bought the retail version yesterday and found out that I can't even install the game! I know I have the hardware that I need but I get this message when I try to install. It does not matter if it is easy or advanced installation.

Error the Window's installer service could not be accessed. This can ocurr if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed.

I know I am not running windows in safe mode. As for my installer??? I have recently installed another game and it works fine so I don't know why I got that message. Anyway any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Download Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com) and register Sins there, then you can download the latest up to date version. There were enough patches (and 1.1 was large enough) that it won't be that much bigger from what you would've had to download to patch your 1.0 and you can only get the latest patch through Impulse anyway. ;) Kills many a bird with one stone.

I already registered and downloaded Impulse. I am goiong to try and download the latest patch. I hope that I can put it on a flash drive because my home computer does not have internet. Thank's for the advice.

Hm, that will be a bit of a problem then. Impulse can make a game archive, but it needs to be logged in to install from it. Since you have no internet on the home PC, you'll also need to re-create the registry entries (sorry, I don't remember the registry path for Sins at the moment).

I know the guys at [email protected] can help fix your Windows Installer issues, but that will need internet as well since it's going to involve downloading Microsoft updates :(

Edit: Check this thread for what to do in the registry: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304571 The patch version is different, should be 1.12, but I don't think the number itself will make a difference - just need the string.

I worked it out. Downloaded it to my flashdrive and copied it to my home PC. The game plays on my computer  . The strange thing is that when I put the disk in it still asks me to install the game??? I might work that out once I play the game a bit. And one last question does sins not have a campain mode just skirmish? Thank's for your help Annatar11.

That's actually the way it's supposed to be, the disk isn't needed to play so there was no need to tie the launcher to the disk, it's just for the installation ;)

There's no campaign, though one is in the works for the future :) Ironclad decided to focus on the sandbox aspect so they could get it right, rather than half-assing the campaign and the sandbox :P
