{Major Copmputer Troubles}

I just got a newish computer a little while ago. It's not that old, newer then my friend's (who can play demigod) and it's lagging horriably when I'm trying to play Demigod, which sucks because I can't even really enjoy it.

The specs are:

Windows vista Ultimate

AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual Core Processor 4200+

2.00 GB Ram

ATI Radeon HD 3800 series (The 3850, to be exact)

So, does anyone think they can help me?

What does your internet connection look like?  Does it lag when you play against AI too, or just people?

No it lags terribly from the start, even in the opening sequence and in the main menu. It's slow to loading and it sounds lag behind the button clicks, the game, even with AI is bad. As for my internet connection, it usually runs top notch, it's a high quality connection.

vista might be eating all your ram - turn off aero and all the other pretties if you haven't alraedy.

No that isn't the problem, I've got plenty of ram and it's not being used by vista.

read through the other threads on lagging with ATI cards. i'm pretty sure you'll find either a direct solution or pointers to one there.

while playing, press NUMPAD-SLASH to bring up the game's framerate meter. it has a nifty little feature that records and tells you the last spike in performance. when you first start a game, i find several seconds of spikes and crap performance. but give it 30 seconds and everything sorts itself out (and for the record my machine currently has 1GB RAM).

also, you should console in 'ren_showNetworkStats' to see how things are faring in MP. take a look at the latency and behind values to give you an indication of who (if anyone) is lagging. there's also the sim-time value which should be under 50ms most of the time.

that said, stop using qualitative adjectives on technical objects. an Athlon X2 4200+ certainly isn't newish. so i have my doubts as to the validity of your statements my drivers are completely up to date and high quality connection.

tell us your specific Catalyst driver version. if you don't know then say so; we'll help you work it out.

sorry, I ended up finding and fixing the problem. It was wierd (if you don't care you can stop reading now) there was some hi def sound service running that for some reason forced one of my processors to run at 100% use all the time, so I was running the computer at half processing power or less. Happily it has been fixed and Demigod plays like a dream.

could you tell us the specifics of said sound service (i'll take a bet it was realtek), as that could very well become useful to both other beta testers and GPG (whom shall likely look at a fix).

that, and i'm curious too.

cheers.

No it was just an HD sound port that wasn't being used, my computer just bugged up, and it was the basic sound card, it wasnt a demigod thing, it was a computer thing, no0w that i fixed it demigod, and all my other games run fine now.
