Idea for a new units ingame for all Races

Sins Boarding Frigates and Capital Ship boarding craft Tech addon/patch/mod idea

First i would like to say Hi to everyone i'm new here and big Fan from Norway

I like the Entrenchment beta a lot. But there was one thing i noticed when i got Sins, theres no Boarding crafts?

have played alot Homeworld 2 and boarding crafts are something that could make sins more intresting.

jSome Examples:

Imagine a boarding Frigate capturing another races Capital ship, and takes control of the ship and you gain some of the enemy Intel and Technology. Imagine it taking over control of enemy Starbase in a battle you are about to lose?

40.000 VS 5000 soldiers = 35.000 Soldiers left in Starbase and 0 in the Frigate and the ship is yours and you can then let the starbase refit it with 5000 soldiers from Starbase. (The  Starbase regenerates 10 Soldiers sec. For a Boarding Frigate to get more soldiers it has to get them from a Starbase since only Starbases can generate Soldiers)

Example of good use of Barding Frigate: Taking Enemy Capital ships, Starbases, Random Technology from Enemy, and  temp. Intel of locations of Enemy fleets, Starbases and Planet coordinates.

10 Frigates could easy capture an enemy Starbase given enough time boarding it. 50.000 vs 40.000 = Frigates Win.

But is only  if the Starbase is undamaged, if starbase has only half of its hull left there would be only 20.000 defenders thus only need 5 Frigates.

How to get this to work.

Lets say the Frigates can Mirror enemy Frigates or Trade ships. And only way to counter dem is if there are fighter squadrons nearby or a very expensive Starbase security upgrade that allow the soldiers inside the starbases have dogs/lasers/gas etc. inside the base that can knock out 20% of the incoming boarders. 20% of one Frigate would be 1000 Soldiers of 5000 soldiers.

This is only ideas not how it must be :)

Then imagine a upgrade only for Level 5 Capital ships can have, Boarding Parties boards trough teleportation or  by sending small bombers loaded with soldiers/marines and crash attach themself into the  enemy starbase/capital ship hull when the starbase/capital ship lose their shields.

Lets say that every level 5 capital ship can have 20.000 soldiers, that would only require 3 capital ships or less incompany with a boarding Frigate or Two to capture a almost unharmed Starbase.

The reason i'm writing this here is that i would really like to se Awesome Sins become even more Awesome and possible a Homeworld 3 K.O kickass game.

I really loved the Frigates in Homeworld 2 that could board other ships adding a nice twist to Strategy.

I like sins more now, and i really like Entrenchment but something is missing that could make it even better.

I had some trouble finding this game but in the end all I had to do was to buy it trough an import store on nett, and buy Entrenchment trough Impulse with Paypal.

Could work but would require lots of work and honestly a little frigate wiping out your starbase or your level nine MARZA!!!!!!!!!!!!???

IF they put this into the game, give it to the colony frigates, so they have a real purpose in a fleet.

I'd rather see boarding ships that invade planets.  This way, a planet could be captured intact, with all the upgrades etc still useful.  You could also give a faction specific bonus because of the slaves you capture too.  Right now, nuking a planet to dust 4-5 times in a game makes it seem really silly, and each time you have to start over with upgrades.  Using landing craft would cost more, but give you a cheaper planet.

Couple that with "planetary bombardment!" missions for bombers (and escort missions for fighters so they both drop down into the planet), not something that takes down planet health, but aids marines in taking over. Bombers blow up defences, marines go in and blow things up.

If it's done, there has to be sound effects of automatic fire, explosions and shouty men/aliens/telepaths when clicking on the planet. Along with that, have ships in orbit choose between scorched earth or precision strikes. The former is like what bombing is now, destroying infastructure and bomb shelters until there's nothing left, the latter helps with landing parties.

This system wouldn't work.

5000 armed and disciplined troops vs. 40000 thousand dock workers, engineers, rent-a-cops, and officers... the starbase doesn't stand a chance. It'd be a massacre. Heck, you could likely take the base with no more than a thousand troops, if you stop throwing them against the automated turrets. The civilian survivors know the place, they could get it working better than your guys could, so put them to work! Or vent the lower decks, your guys should be able to handle it.

The best thing about taking a major installation is that you're taking the enemy's hard earned resoruces and turning it against him. That's a double bonus. Even if you can't fully populate the starbase to keep it fully maintained, you'd still be able to run it to the ground and get every bit of good you can out of it. In the end you got an awesome temporary forward base, and your opponent lost a huge investment.

UGH please no, think of how this would severely unbalnce the game,

For example, it would be easy to spam the frigates and create a army of 40 or so of them and flank the enemy while they are distracted by 3-4 scouts and just take their entire fleet, having cap ships stolen that you worked hard to get to lvl 9 or worse yet a fully upgraded starbace that you've poured 10,000+ cerdits into fall into the hands of the enemy and attack your fleet it's just ironic and fusterating.

Military takover of planets is an interesting concept however, they would also be all to easy to spam yet if they could only take planets it would need protection and make spamming a bad idea so those could work; otherwise I don't think it could be implimented without major balance issues.

Like what psycho said, the boarding of ships probably couldn't work, but the planets could if you made the boarding ships have a limit similiar to cap ships and made them have no weapons/very little armor.

And make it so that if a planet has sheilds, it can't be invaded so long as they're up.

I love boarding craft. Send in Chuk Norris and the enemy ship is yours. It could work similar to the way I've seen the borg take federation ships in a star trek game. It would be automatic of course.

Could also take this idea and use it to take enemy planets without having to bombard them until everyone is dead and the upgrades are destroyed. They should have done that in the first place.

Need to go learn about home world 2. Sounds like a good game.

Thank you for your comment :) I love boardings ships from HomeWorld 2 and you all have a lot of interesting ideas.

What if Bombardment where used for destroying military emplacements and defenses on the planets? and then go inn and capture the Planet with invasion force/boarding Ships.

And by the Starbase I meant 40.000 Soldiers not including the tech and civilians... make the Starbases Military Bases, tyhe Starbase would supply Capital Ships/Frigates with more Marines becouse the Starbase would have a Marine training facility or something like that.

make all Frigates capital ships have some marines and let them get training you pay to get em stronger/ level up, new weapons, armours, traps etc.

All boarding be automatic when you choose to board and that the attacking marines need their ship attached loong enough to get it completed.

Theres lots if ideas heres one more, let starbases have a Lockdown upgrade closing all doors and gasing/Turret the marines.

I don't know but Marines worked very good in HomeWorld 2 and would be present in HomeWorld 3.

well this is why I came with the idea of having this for Sins of a Solar empire.. but if it does not come from the developers I could  maybe start making a mod.. just kiddin don't know how to mod :) Spaceship boarding is nothing new if you have played the right games.
