PhysX Pros and Cons

Nvidia PhysX

What do you guys think about how the game would been diffrent if there where standard PhysX in it?

Heres some info about Nvidia PhysX:

  • Explosions that cause dust and collateral debris (Blowing up planets or solar systems?, making certain parts of an enemy ship fall off or vital parts? ...Effects like that is in Age of empires 3)
  • Characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like motion and interaction (I Really wish Sins Capital ships could move in three dimensions)
  • Spectacular new weapons with incredible effects (YES)
  • Cloth that drapes and tears naturally (Imagine a star being tear apart by a black hole)
  • Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion (Planets with rings or meteor belts in motion?, dense fog/star clouds?)

Do you think PhysX could be something for Sins Of A Solar Empire? :)

well, first sins ships CAN move in three dimensions, its just that the default settings dont have this, and you have to edit the hotkeys a bit to fit it in, but its there.  Rarely even the ai uses the third axis, I have seen pirate fleets go OVER planets (really, over, not through, like fighters and bombers do)

other then that... for sins of a solar empire 2... a graphics upgrade of that magnatude would be nice.

Although, really, for the game right now... even a few (minor?) upgrades would be nice. (if possible) For example:  I really dislike it how the autocannons and stuff on ships dont swivel, and the muzzle flash points straight, no matter which direction the gun is firing. A second pet peeve is that, while most ships and objects are nice and solid, fighters and bombers can pass through planets and other ships... and third, while the ships actively attempt to use the z axis to keep out of each others line of fire (which is awsome)... your ships will still sometimes fire through eachother without causing damage... ships should hold their fire or pick another target if other ships are in the way... which would of course make formations, and ship positions just a bit more stratgic... and more importantly, nothing ruins a space battle screenshot like a laser beam traveling through a ship.  and as far as physics go...  and while the physics of ship movment is normally great, if a ships engines are disabled, it should still maintain its momentum, instead of stoping almost instantly... and a disabled, stationary ship should gain speed towards the center of the gravity well... and other such gravity, and newtonian effects and stuff would be nice, but prolly not possible. [/spam]

I'll be more excited about PhysX-style simulation when CPUs dedicate an entire core to it.  The change from laughable 3rd-party extra card to NVidia supporting it with their graphics cards has been appealing however.

As for Sins, I think it's a little late to be thinking about it.  I don't know how interested Ironclad is in making a SoaSE 2, but if they go down that path, it's definitely something they should add support for if not directly code into the game at length.

Tbh it isnt that hard most noteable is Company of Heroes the game it self wasnt ment to Support DX10 but relic re-did the Engine then released 1.5gb patch for the DX10 to be used so i guess you can do the same with Sins.

and Intel is working atm at a CPU running graphics my mate showed me a link ill ask him to send it to me again so you can take a look it was only a test and it worked but not same as having a Graphics Card as i said it was a test .

The intel solution with an integrated graphics chip is for business use, at best.

Nvidia wanted to make a version of it, with their own GPU integrated, and had actually already made one, waiting on approval from Intel, which intel decided to decline.

wait they couldnt of thrown it out yet they just started work on it in november 08

Yes they can throw it out. Nvidia had a ready version of the new intel integrated graphics CPU ready, with 8000 series graphics.

Intel tossed it.

And apparently they "untossed it" - this little tidbit had escaped my notice. ;

Imagine a special superweapon that is super expensive and super strong (like a big beam/nuke cannon)

Fire it on an enemy extra Solar Star and watch it explode dealing some damage through its planets of course only dealing some damage to ships and nearly kill Planet populations in that system.

And after some time it becomes a black hole, slowly sucking the planets towards it, like 15 minuttes per planet before it is sucked inn giving the faction time to evacuete  ships to other planets in the system. But in the end their only chance is to jump to another solar system within an hour, if they stay more than an hour on the farthest reach planets the planets will be sucked inn becouse of newtons laws. hahahah

The only way to survive this is star jumping and hoping noone has claimed the system before you.

The big advantage of this is if theres only two Stars or more...yees the enemy has to flee and fight to the death if there are other empires in the stars they flee to.

Disadvantages only for the one that get hit.

i was under the impression that this counts for every weapon ;)
