Creating a Life Force resource?

I've recently grown (temporarily) tired of the game, and have been playing with modding it. I actually decided I wanted to try to put in the life force resource for fun (no I wasn't going to post the games) but I can't make it work. You get the graphic if you create a new resource as follows, but I can't get the thing to actually give the bonus.
This is how far I got, any ideas?:
