replacing races mod: old races still showing up, help

So I decided to make my first mod, and I mean EVER, on any game. I decided to start very simple: replace the major races with Star Trek races, matching them up as best as possible, so that I didnt have to mess with changing stats or super abilities. I followed a modding guide and got to work changing the RaceConfig and the CustomPlanets file. Finally I finished and everything looked great! The new pictures and descriptions were all there. There is a problem, however, on the "choose your opponants" screen at the very end of the game setup. . .

All of my races are listed, but 6 of the original races are still there: Terrans, Drath, Korath, Yor, and Iconian. I changed their names and pictures in the RaceConfig file to make room for the new Trek races. So why are they still there? If I put one of these races in the game, their homeworlds are what I changed them to, for the new races. Also, a couple of new races I had "the" in front of them, and I wasnt sure if that would be redundant on some game messages, so I went back and deleted the prefix. But on two of my new races I have both of the versions, for example both "The Romulan Empire" and "Romulan Empire" appear in the opponant list, even though all I did was delete the word "the" and resave RaceConfig. If I pick one of them, the other disappears from the list.

These problems arent the end of the world, but I like to have my opponants randomly chosen, and if I do that now, Ill get a couple of vanilla races in the mix, and I dont want that. Any advice as to what Ive done wrong would be great, but keep in mind, Im extremely new at this.

go to my documents/my games/[your version of GC2] and delete all of the .raceconfig files

There are two ways to fix this problem your raceconfig Xml should look like this.

It was the mysterious files in the My Documents folder. Once I deleted them everything worked great. Thanks though.
