Sol Map

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post but I keyword searched for "sol" and found nothing. I want to make a map of the "Sol" system in the map editor and am encountering problems. Shouldn't I be able to create an exact replica of our solar system in the map editor? I want nine planets (I'm considering Pluto a planet for this exercise) and an asteroid belt around a yellow star. After that I suppose I could add Alpha Centari and whatever comes next but I wanted to start with our solar system and work my way out from there but when I have input what appears to be the correct parameters into the map editor I end up with something close to but entirely unlike tea.

Those are some other Sol Maps made by other ppl. I say they be a good referance.

I think this guy is using the map editor in the game, not the Galaxy Forge editor.  The in-game map editor sets up parameters for random map generation.  It adds extra stuff in addition to the parameters you specify to ensure that every player begins with a terran home planet and sufficient area for expansion, so you really can't create the Sol system with it.  Download Galaxy Forge (https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/downloads.aspx) if you want more control over the system you create.

I tried making an "exact" replica of our solar system in Galaxy Forge.  The sun and Mercury were practically side-by-side, while it was a good thirty minutes to phase jump out to Neptune, and that was only half-way to Eris, the furthest object I placed on my map.  Getting the scale right just doesn't work for gameplay.

a 30 min phase jump!?!?!?!8(|

Well, I had some asteroids in between so it was several phase jumps, but it took you about 30 minutes to make the trip from Earth out to Neptune.

This is the article I used to get the distances right:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Solar_System_objects_in_hydrostatic_equilibrium

You'll notice that neptune is like 80 times further away from the sun than mercury.  Accounting for the fact that I didn't put the planets in a straight line, so your phase jump wasn't directly outward from the sun, this made the distance to the outer solar system utterly ridiculous.  It was actually an interesting concept that forced me to separate my resources into two empires, one for the "near" solar system and one for the "far" solar system, but aside from sheer mind-bogglingly long travel times I haven't found a good way to get the same effect in other maps I've made.

No, I haven't gotten around to uploading my maps.  I'm under the impression that most singleplayer gamers aren't aware of the map database's existance, and because there's no in-game distribution system multiplayer gamers can't really use it that much anyways.  However, since you've expressed interest, I've uploaded it.  Now let's wait up to five days for it to actually appear...

Cool. Oh, by the way how do you keep from losing credits? I didnt know where to put this in the database.
