The Empire Tree

It tasks me so...

I hate it.  It's a wonderful invention, something that will make me hate every rts to come that doesn't have a similar system, sorta like Supreme Commander, even though I'm bored by it, ruined any future RTS without zoom to cursor.

But it sucks.  It's driving me batty when trying to utilize fleets.  Having my fleet pinned is nice, but I can't actually use that wonderful display because it pops down to the bloody planet I'm at whenever something happens.

The only solution to this irritation is unpinning the planets, at which point the empire tree is fairly useless.  When I'm raiding a pirate base and trying to keep my guys alive by micromanaging shield restores, I don't want the added clutter of 50+ pirate ships and the gauss array, which are blowing up too fast to count, constantly reordering my stacks of ships on me...

At the least, go back to the way it was before, with closed sections not popping into focus.  I'd prefer fleets were given priority over planets, but I can see where someone out of their mind would want the whole mess in one spot all the time.  In a perfect world, I'd like an option to freeze fleet displays.

Try switching to selection based mode.

OK, isn't the the default these days?  (Edit:  Or did somebody swap something when I wasn't looking, lol)

In that mode, you have the same problem, if you pin the planets, they get in the way.  If you don't pin them, you can't access them through the tree.

Look on the bright side - anyone you play against has to deal with the same issue!!!

If only that were true.  The AI suffers no such irritation.
