Custom race (Thalan tech tree) can't build Hyperion Matrix

I just started a new game as a custom race with the Thalan tech tree.  I put all of my technology points into engine systems, and when I researched the Hyperion Matrix technology to put on my nice little homeworld Precursor Mine, I found that there was no Matrix for me to build.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a known bug?

If it's a known bug... what the hell.

I mean c'mon, seriously.  What the hell...

Unless I'm just a total boob and researched the tech wrong or something. :P

Most likely is that the Thalans themselves are in the game, and they beat you to it - it's a one-per-galaxy building. Since they start with the tech for it, they can - and generally do - rush buy it before you get the chance. The only solution is to not play against them when using their tree. The same applies to all civs with very early one-per-galaxy buildings.

Besides, putting the Matrix on your homeworld is usually a bad thing, as you create a 24b population planet you can never keep happy. Although I must admit, a precursor mine/library makes a powerful counterargument :O

No I think there might be a problem here - I just started a Thalan tech tree custom race and wasn't able to build the Hyperion Matrix in my home world.  I took the Hyperion matrix as a given tech.  I wasn't able to build it in the first turn, and hence I can't see how it would have been built anywhere else earlier.  Mind you, the Thalans are on the map, which may be part of the bug(?).

In another custom race (a while back) using the Thalan tech tree i _was_ able to build the matrix. This is annoying.

Ok - nevermind - previous poster is right.  I just reached a high intel level with the Thalans, checked their hoemworld, and yes, the hyperion matrix was there.  They must have had their first turn before me, and rush bought it so that when I began, I couldn't even see the option.  That kinda sucks.  But at least it's not a _bug_.

Correct-the AI technically takes their turn before the player.  This is a non-issue though, as it resolves an issue that was previously in the game, whereby the AI would get a "free turn" every time the player reloaded.

The real bug at hand here is that it's not showing GA's, SP's, TG's, etc, that are built on the first turn.  I've seen this throughout TA; at least since 1.96, if memory serves, and it's plenty annoying.
