[Disappointed] Vasari Starbase Aesthetics

[Disappointed] Vasari Starbase Aesthetics

Im really disappointed with the Vasari Starbase. I think it should be remoddled because the Vasari deserve better then a Giant Rattle for a Starbase . I know Ironclad can do better! the TEC one looks great. :digichet: . Ive also noticed when the Starbase fires its lasers , they appear from flat textures that dont even represent anything that should fire lasers. Thats lazy!.

With the spiky architecture of Vasari , I was hoping for something like Deepspace 9 or a Cylon Cityship.

ps - Alot of people complained about the Kol model , and it got changed.

PS: It's my fav looking too.  Although the ball could use a little work.  Like maybe replace it with a pair of balls.  Then we can say that any Vasari player has the biggest balls in the galaxy

Very witty, well done you.

Anyway, my favourite is probly the TEC cos it looks like something that you should see looming in the sky and think 'im glad that thing is there to protect us'

And i think they could improve the Vasari SB, if they took off the big ball thingy with looks a bit unneccesary really, and sharpen teh stalk that reaches down to a point. Then it would look a lot more evil and Vasari-ish

It still should'nt move.

Haha I try.

The advent does however have the most detail added onto the surface when zoomed in all the way.  But the semi-circle of it just stops, I feel like.

And I want the Guns to be visible. Not just dots, that's my biggest complaint about starbasees, the laziness with that.

Overall good :)

If one moves, they all move.  However it should be called repositioning.  Say you find a phase lane needs protection, you can reposition it, at a cost though.  But they shouldn't be able to freely move like the Vasari's does.

Noes! Balance does not always equal symmetry. If all starbases could move, you could not assault with a Purple Pineapple of Destiny.

I like my Cosmic Octopus as it is.

That's why they should add an anti-structure cruiser for the Vasari.  And what I meant is that all Starbases cannot move.  However you can pay a repositioning fee to move them. During this time they would be at half DPS until they are up and running again.  And it would be a slow move.  Doubt those things could go fast.  The animation for this would be, small 'tug boats' coming out of their glowing thingy and pulling it.

Actually, now that I think about it, it does need a change. It needs to be fully animated and do THIS to capitals.

I think the Vasari starbase looks fine...

Except for that little empty space between the ball and the rest of it... It really needs some sort of particle effect or something... or maybe just the missing segment of hull, because it just seems... silly, somehow. Although I suppose if you look closely on the Vasari Hangars, they have non-connected pieces too.

Oh, and what IS that ball on the bottom? What's it supposed to be? Is it the engines or something?

And props to the weird swirly lights inside, they look tight... but wtf are they?

Oh, and the Vasari's pulse shots seem to come out of the dark lines that separate the segments of the starbase... I'm guessing they were going for a "phaser capacitor" style like you see on the Enterprise-D in Star Trek: The Next Generation (the big dark rings on the saucer section and on the main section's belly, and in a couple other smaller places).

What gets me is... When you look at the Vasari Phase Missile upgrades? They say they upgrade all star bases... Erm, how? I haven't seen my Orkulus firing any phase missiles. But it should, imo. :-P

Ever hungry for more Vasari fluff,

i believe it requires assault systems upgrades and they come from the upper center area

That explains it.

Animations and weapon details on Starbases need works for sure.  I've said this a million times, but where are the guns?!!?

Actually, I like the 'concept art' version of the starbase a lot more than the final version... the concept art version (you sometimes see it on the loading screens) looks cool!

The gap gets an effect when you use the debris sucker that looks OK, but personally I'd prefer something going all the time with debris sucker just 'punching it up'.

Yeah that looked cooler I thought too.  And there needs to be like a constant greenish beam at all times or something to that effect.

What I'm not that satisfied with is the Advent sb. Not in regard to texture- I think it has the best texture from the three- but about its overall shape: It looks somewhat unfinished, like it's missing something. Maybe with more radical visible upgrades...

I must agree it's UGLY.  It may be nice starbase if it didn't move. Because it moves the shape is just awkward.

I like it too.

Actually, I hate guns.  They look like stupid little sticks sticking out of the chassis, and even worse, they don't move, even though they may be targeting something at an off-angle.  Sort of like the guns on the Kol stick straight ahead even when it is firing off at an angle.

Guns look cheesy and stupid and low tech.  Keep the flush mount.

According to the concept art, it is a fusion engine/habititable zone (think colony pods).

The only bad thing about the Orkulas is that you can't see where the plasma pulse bullets and phase missiles come out of. I'd like to see little holes or something. Guns sticking out would be ugly.

There should be noticeable differances in appearance when you upgrade a SB.

There is. for TEC. the lasers. everyone else got screwed because TEC are getting all the camera time(look at the entrenchment new units trailers).

According to the original concept art, the bottom is the civilian section of the SB, where the colony pods go and presumably where the trade ships dock. It also houses some sort of energy reactor. The top section, on the other hand, is the military part, where the commanders are and all the gunners and technicians.

And props to the weird swirly lights inside, they look tight... but wtf are they?

I think they might be nanobots doin their thang. just a theory tho.

After the third weapons upgrade, the starbase gets phase missiles =)

And i definitely think they need to do SOMETHING about the middle break. either get it to look like it does in the concept art, all shredded and stuff,  or put some funky light tendrils in there or something like they have in the top hole thingy.

You will see the funky light tendrils when you have the right ability, but the polygon cost of the shredded stuff was prohibitive, as much as we would have liked seeing that ourselves.
