How does impulse work?
Is it like Steam? If I purchase a game via impulse (so no physical copy) and I uninstall it, will I be able to reinstall it later on?
Thanks!

Kinda.
Yes. Everything you buy is tied to your Impulse account and can be re-downloaded later.
well as long as stardock keeps Impulse servers online. <cough> Hellgate: London <cough> <--- only took them a little over a year to shut them down.
this is the akillies heal to content distrubution. What happens when i want to play my 10 year old RTS? and there is no impulse server to serve up my key? (oh thats right i dont own my own version of the game, i mearly rent it from Stardoc)
As long as you have an install of it backed up somewhere it should run fine as Impulse does not need to run when you play the game. Just copy and paste an install of it to an external harddrive or even a flash drive and you will be fine.
What I like about Impulse is that it is only needed to install and update a game.
I also miss Hellgate: London. The main reason Hellgate failed is a result of bad management, as Stardock gets most of its money from its utility products, and those have been selling strong, I am not that worried about Stardock closing.
doesn't that sound like steam?
Right now you can create backup files that you can archive of all your programs. Also, unlike Steam, you don't need Impulse running to play your games.
Except that Impulse is not required to be running while you play, which is where the "kinda" comes in.
not really, I have steam, all of the program you can launch directly from where every you want, it is just that steam allows you to connect online to play with other players and you must connect online to play
Not a single one of the games I have off Steam will run without Steam first firing up, checking for updates, then proceeding to hang around while I play. Impulse does not run itself in such a manner, and in fact does not even need to be installed in order to play games you downloaded through it.
