[Bug] Explosions don't always appear since Entrenchment is installed

Hey folks, I installed Entrenchment this weekend and so far I really enjoy it! Great work guys. I wanted to know if I was the only with minor graphical problems since Entrenchment is installed. Actually, it has something to do with explosions, they only show up 50% of the time now. I can destroy a few cap ships in 30 secs and none of them will explode, their graph will just vanish, then I see the debris. It wasn't doing this before, so I wonder if anyone else noticed it.

Btw, it also seems that sometimes the starbases's graphics for their weapons don't always show either. I see the starbases standing there, with 50 and + enemy vessels in front of it, doing nothing. I'm like "What the hell?!", then I zoom out and back in, and now I see it shooting at everyone.

I always play on larger maps with massive fleets, so I don't know if it has something to do with anything.

This was a problem in vanilla Sins as well, usually in the late game when system resources start getting strained. Sometimes you can even blow up a starbase, hear all the explosion sounds but not see any. Then the starbase just disappears and is replaced by the debris :P

You can try saving the game and re-loading to see if it fixes it.

I mentioned that recently in this thread:

I don't believe saving and reloading will solve it, well it certainly wont for me because it is after loading a save game I will notice it the most.

yeah I also noticed that Starbases don't always "blow up". Although, I gotta admit I never really noticed this "bug" on vanilla Sins. Perharps I'm just more alert of these "bugs" now that Entrenchment is installed?

I agree with Annatar - the game starts choosing things to not do when your system gets constrained. Pull out task manager and watch the Sins usage - when it maxes a core, you can start seeing these things get left out.  To be honest, I like it much better than the pre-entrenchment approach of a very hitchy 5 frames/second when my CPU maxes.

With a 3ghz Core 2, I reach max CPU on a random medium large map with 2 opponents. Unless you have a Core i7 at 5ghz, expect to see effects go missing on huge maps with large fleets.

I was, obviously, referring to other starbases I destroy ;)

I'm guessing thats when the engine is showing it's limits.

But it's better to lose a few explosions/beams than to start to lag.

yeah, it sucks though that the game engine can't handle 2 cores. I can play Warhammer DOW II on ultra settings, but Sins can't handle big fights.

I wonder if on 3 stars or more games...if you start to erase/cash in unused things in the systems that there is no activity/fighting this would help the graphics in the current system your in.

Or is the engine limited to showing a certain amount of flash at once?

cash in unused things

I've done this and it appeared to make things better, but without any numbers to back it up, I can't say for sure that it helps.
