Game Crashes and Won't Restart from Saved Game & Suggestion
from
Stardock Forums
I am a recent purchaser of GalCiv and was actually one of the first to play it back in the early 90's under it's OS/2 Warp version. I loved it then and love it now, but oddly enough, this new version suffers from the same thing as did the OS/2 Version almost 10 years ago now: after playing a game up to a certain point (generally a few hours either under single or multiple sessions) it simply crashes and the saved game cannot be reloaded without it crashing the game again. So I always have to start a new civ just when my game was really getting good.
I have the latest release from Stardock Central.
Also, before the game I am playing is about to become unusable anymore some of the ships that are constructed appear blank in the stacked ship list of a planet(only the little box with empty space in it) and when I launch them they are also blank (with the little blue halos around them). While they can be directed to fly to a particular spot, I cannot double click on them to bring up the ship's directives screen.
Shortly after this phenomenon starts to happen, the game crashes and returns me to Windows. When I relaunch and try to load the saved game, it crashes and returns me to Windows.
It is truly odd that this exact same phenomenon would occur 10 years and numerous computers ago, but what can I say? Anyhow, it is truly a wonderful game and I love playing it, however as I said it is a bit frustrating knowing that I am going to get to a certain point and have to start a new game.
Also I hope in the future that more conveniences are introduced to display information and move between various screens and information pages while performing various functions. I hope the developers start to 'think in Windows' in so far as what is needed is more drop down menus, context menus and other things which enable quick switching between information pages as well as selecting ships and planets in order to accomplish various tasks. For example, being able to quickly and easily assemble fleets from ships of multiple systems; perhaps also, in addition to the planets and ships screens on the far right of the screen that in the game itself it is possible to right click and bring up a context menu when enables one to quickly get a planet list which cascades into that planets ships, projects, etc.
Thanks for any assistance in advance on the crashing issue!
