Environmental Effects

I LOVE the idea of the plasma storms, gas giants, asteroid fields, etc.  The idea of the place you are at having a effect on combat is just cool to me.  Call me strange.  Anyway, I'd like to see these effects amplified some how.  The way it is now, you seldom ever end up fighting in one of the effected zones...least I don't.  If there were some way to make things happen in these neat areas or to make them of more interest, that would make me giddy.  :)

I wholeheartedly agree.  The problem is you need to put something in the area to make fighting for it worthwhile....or it has to be in a strategic location.  The first part is tricky to pull of because you wouldn't want to unbalance the game too much, and the second is hard to get through random chance, but could be integrated into maps.

Perhaps if there was someway to allow for artifacts in those gravity wells, like on a derelict ship or spacestation, etc.  Then they would be worth fighting over, while not unbalancing the game because artifacts are already a part of the game.

In many games I find myself fighting in these areas. Usually it is small battles over the extractors there. Sometimes it is because it is a vital passageway.

Nothing is worse than sending in your carrier based fleet and noticing a minute later that strike craft were docked and unable to launch due to the storm.

If the effect wasnt just at non colonizable grav wells, like put a dead astroid there with a good amount of resorces (the ones you have to capture, not build on) now you would have a good reason to have some epic battles in those areas.
