Bug in 1.03 - Good races researching Evil Techs?

I'm trying to complete my old 1.03 game before upgrading, and I just noticed a bug -- The Altarians, who show up as Saintly, managed the research (not trade for, I saw them researching it and no one else has it) Xeno Intimidation, which is restricted to evil races. Shouldn't the AI have the same limitations on tech research as human players?

A follow-up... as a result of this I now should have 10 trade routes. Only 9 are displayed though. Not sure what would happen if I tried to make a 10th.

Okay, the following turn, a #10 trade route appeared. So I guess you can have 10 trade routes. But, good AI researching evil tech is still a bug.

Yes, I did. Saintly Dregs were eyeballed using Advanced Espionage researching Mind Terror Weapons in 1.02 or 1.031. Vorlin mentioned that it has been fixed though.

Saw that you mentioned 1.03. Not sure if the bug is still around. Maybe Cari could clarify.

Hmmm...must be something odd in the AI tech tree.  I'll ask Brad to look into it.

That was going to be my next suggestion, actually... perhaps after fixing this bug, it should be made so that you can't trade good techs to evils or neutrals and vice-versa. Then you might even add (for those people who switch alignment back and forth) a way so that you can't have both good and bad techs at the same time... that would be substantially harder, though, since it would require code the "turn off" what a previous tech had turned on.

Good civilizations shouldn't be able to use the evil techs -- Life Force Power ain't exactly easy to justify without a might-makes-right outlook -- but I'm not convinced that it wouldn't be Evil to take advantage of Good technology. After all, there is no good or evil, only power. ;)

Voluntary self-sacrifice. Basically a form of assisted suicide that helps everyone else at the same time.

Justifying researching the ability yourself is a bit harder to do, though.
