Updating from 1.04.058 to 1.04.059

Will it be safe to update to 1.04.59 in the middle of a 1.04.58 game?

I downloaded .058 yesterday and started a game that is pretty interesting. Space Zoo popped up early and went to my neighbors the Altarians. So I rapidly researched my way to Dreadnaughts (got there before any of the AIs). Paid a lot of tribute to just about everyone to keep the peace, but the Torians are becoming a little too pushy. We have comparable size militaries. I think they are mad at me because I keep parking missles and constructors next to their bases and then giving them to their enemies. They blow up the base and I get a new resource.

Any way, should I hold off updating and finish the game using 1.04.058 or can I update to 1.04.059?

I always reccommend finishing a game before upgrading. Enough game parameters are tweaked to make an upgrade dangerous. The official advice is that it's safe to upgrade in the middle of a game. The game may not crash, but you may find yourself in a stronger or weaker position after the upgrade.

I had another interesting Altarian experience in my second 1.04 game. They were at war with the Yor, and I was selling the Altarians ships because I wanted some of the Yor's resources and I was selling the ships for more BC than my cost of production. The Altarians kept slamming their ships into the Yor starbase, but only 1 or 2 per turn. The Yor starbase went up 1 level per attack. I think that starbase was near-invulnerable after the Altarians had finished levelling it up.

I have the same problem... As much as I like the game to be updated as often as possible but I was not even able to finish my 1st 1.04 game.

For me the most important thing was the fix of the Crashbug with the ... erm whatever they call the Death-Stars in Galciv... ;p

You shouldn't have any trouble upgrading from even 1.03 to 1.0459, as we haven't changed anything in the save game structures.
