The save game bug was fixed in 1.0459 which is up now.

If you are getting crashes, please install SmartException from under the Free Stuff tab in Stardock Central. This will generate a report that you can send to us.  If it is running when Gal Civ Crashes, it will pop up a dialog asking you to submit.  Hit the submit button, then open log directory, and e-mail the galciv.exe.cra file to me at [email protected]

Randy: the path refers to the drive that the exe was created on. Don't worry about it. Also, that message is essentially harmless, but I've ensured that it won't appear in the next update.

The windowed mode doesn't seem to be working. Command line:

D:\games\Strategy First\Galactic Civilizations>galciv -W
End of quote

I've seen in some cases where a Corvette attacked a regular transport. Both ships were destroyed.

There was no reason why it should have been successful, as there weren't any starbases in the sector, nor did the UP meeting increase the Transport's offense value.

With an ATI Radeon 9700 card with recent drivers, I can not see any colors when the sector ownership button on the minimap is toggled (except yellow, which appears more as striping than color).

Delighted to hear save problem was fixed in .59! Somehow I missed the announcement on that. Will test tonight.

Sugestion:
Then planet changes owner (or colonized), store it's starting population (after changing owner/colonization) somethere (say, it will be StartingPlanetaryPopulation).

Then someone Invades a planet, remove from a list of possible techs to get all techs with a cost more than (Sum(CurrentPlanetaryPopulation-StartingPlanetaryPopulation)) for all planets in invaded system.

I haven't seen this reported yet...

The queuing at the beginning of a turn is odd, to say the least. It used to be that I'd go through each planet that completed something so I could update its queues. Now, it not only goes through for items that have completed, but goes through TWICE if both a military and social item were completed. But its not that simple, either: I have had an item in the social that completed and it not report at all (the colony never showed up in the beginning of turn queuing). When this occured, it was when I had forgotten to add the newly available social items to the governer, so the governer didn't automatically add it to the queue. Regardless, it used to show me so I could update the queue, and now its, uh, strange. I can't figure out what the logic is...

Late game problems, possibly overflow:

- A minor civ appeared which I immediately invaded. The star system had 5 planets. The PQ > 15 planet was shown as normal, the other four had no picture.

- About the same time in the game, space monsters escaped from the zoo. Invisible space monsters. Luckily, they could be found by the "flash" after they got injured. Double clicking them to try to bring up info had no effect.

I have a ~900 kN debug.err with some info in it. Let me know if you want it.

If I may be as bold and suggest something; Add a time stamp on each line in the debug file. That would make it easier to find assertions related to a specific error in a long game.

According to the treaties display, the Arceans and the Yor have both a War and some Trade happening. I thought they were mutually exclusive?

Starship quality bonus from inital planetary colonistation have no effect.

I have two planets one with a starship quality of 20% the other with 42%.
When producing Battle Axes (2/5) I would expect the Axes to be 2/6 and 3/7 (weapons and defense stats are 20% and 10%). Instead both planets produce 2/5.

Just finished a game: 5 races set to sub-normal, tiny galaxy, rare planets. The AI kicked my butt, and made it look easy. I've beaten this setting numerous times before, but this game, the AI was VERY aggressive (especially the Torians).

More importantly, and this is a game-killer for me, I could not keep my popularity rating above 50% no matter what I set taxes to. Even at 0% taxes, my popularity rating was 43%. This was during peacetime with no debt. So, with no taxes income, when the Torians backstabbed me (on sub-normal AI), all my trade went away and I suddenly couldn't make any cash, or have any production. Eventually, all my planets rebelled and I lost.

Please fix this. On this difficulty, I should be able to get a challenging game (I'm not that good, apparently) without any real fear of being humiliated by my computer. Unfortunately, that's just not the case, after this patch.

When you save a game in the last turn and you have nothing left, no valid savegame is created (it creates one, but the folder belonging to it is empty).

You might ask: "Why would one want to save when one's nothing left?"

Answer:
Quote from the rules of 1st Masochistic Challenge

8) Everyone uploads http://apolyton.net/upload archive of a save of a last turn (register on Apolyton forums first to bee able to upload files), so that you need just press 'turn' button and you'll get victory (or defeat) screen.

Thank you CariElf, BTW I uninstalled everything, defraged the HD and then reinstalled and updated (via Stardock) to 1.04.59 again, and all seems to be working fine. I wonder if it was a problem with the upgrade from 1.04.?? to 1.04.59? Thank you for the quick responce though! Love the way you guys? support this game!! TTFN :)

(a) "C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Galactic Civilizations\galciv.exe" w worked just fine for me - note the placement of the (space w) OUTSIDE the double quotes.

(b) Not sure if it is a bug - just finished (won) at crippling - very hard to get AI to trade their trade goods to me, and very little value on mine, BUT they seem to pay much more generously cash for Tech than in 04beta or 058. If this is the intended balance, that is fine with me, but I just wondered if they accidentally increased the value of tech, not trade goods.

I have a problem with minor races(usually 1 in particular) getting trade goods and/or galactic wonders before I can (or another major race)
This happened a little before the last update, but it has increased in 1.04 to the point where they get 4-5 of the earlier ones (esp when I am at 60% social and 2-5 turns from getting it)
is this a bug or just smarter ai?

In my current game, I crash to desktop whenever I try to look at my stats on the domestic policy screen. It is year 2192 on a huge galaxy with 5 intellegent opponents. I did not notice it until after I had saved the game and later reloaded. I have the save game if you need it.

The description of "Life Force Power," when you hit the little question mark, reads "by recycling the refuse of society into raw energy we can gain a 2553784116provement to our overall economy."

Does the new Terror Star Explosion work for anyone in 1.04.59?

I still get the good old explosion when I destroy a star... at least the game doesn't crash any more.

Andre 0: Is your desktop set to 16-bit color? If it isn't windowed mode will not work.

Continuing my earlier list:

7. At the beginning of the game, just after meeting them, the Yor popped up with an offer to trade technology but their were no techs listed for trade on either side. Presumably because there weren't any techs that I had that they didn't have.

8. Whenever the espionage report, the one that comes when your level of infiltration has gone up, comes by it repeats the same sequence of popups on the very next turn.

9. Music and effects sounds drop out on occasion. Have to exit and reload the game to get the sound back. What replaces the effects sounds is a 'static click'. Where music should be is just silence.

10. On occasion the election preview would show up just after the election results screen.

11. I was keeping fairly close tabs on my morale and I lost two elections when morale was 53% and 54% overall.

12. Had a problem with disappearing graphics. In one game it started with an invisible sentry drone that I received via an anomaly. Next was a series of planets that vanished just after the random event that raises all planets in the system by 11 planet classes. After that many planet graphics would vanish when the planet class increased. Lastly once I was able to build Avatars they were all invisible.

Exiting the game and reloading brought all the graphics back. A simple save and reload was not sufficient.

13. Once a Terran planet gets a Skull and Crossbones it hangs around forever.

14. When a Torian planet that they had constructed 'The Terraformer' galactic wonder on defected to the Terrans I don't think I got any benefit from it.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before - but if you select a starbase, and right-click another location, you'll get an auto-pilot path there, even though of course the starbase never moves.

Repeatable crash bug.

Don't purchase a wonder from a tech you don't have, it
seems to crash the game(when the turn cycles). At
least thats what I am assuming is causing the crash,
as its the only odd thing about the game.

I have a save of it, crashes 100% of the time.

Get access to the wonder via capturing a planet. Was
half done and I decided to finish it before some other
civ built it. After hitting turn, CTD.
