Duglis: Um what do you mean the Altarians attacked planets that they owned?

Jim Bones: it worked when I tried it.  Did you have a planet event that reduces planet quality?

bdenuto: well, nothing has changed in our sound code since 1.03.  Is there anything that you've installed that may have affected your sound drivers or codecs?

This link will restore your microsoft mp3 codecs if they've been overwritten by another program, but shouldn't adversely affect the programs that did the overwritting.

Not an actual bug, but how comes that I can see the Spend-power pieces of cake in the bottom left, without having contact? I don't want to see from the beginning on who's the strongest and so on... It spoils my fun a bit... Maybe i'll put a sticker on my monitor for that purpose... but a change in the code to see it only for races you have contract with would be better.

Not a bug, but a very odd interface issue: in the main screen we have the "Restore Last Civilization" choice that ostensibly is there to be convenient - so why does it *only* work with the autosaves verus the *last* saved game? As it is it has only one use: restoring after a CTD or computer glitch.

It would be nice if this would load whichever save game had the most recent time stamp on it.

- the terror star movement bug is still in...

- combine a starfighter with a constructor or any other ships and the first AI ship attacking (up to frigates in my game) blow themselves up and destroy a the same time only the starfighter

- In a game I can“t send ships to two of my systems because the computer asks me if I want to attack the Yor trade vessel and start a war?????

"Today, loaded up the save game, and for some odd reason the TerrorStar now had a move of 17"

Cataphasis:

This is a known bug that I thought had been fixed. :)

It turns out that, on the trade screen, 12k for 0 turns is a lump-sum of 12k. 8k for 1 turns is 8k this turn AND 8k next turn. So, you're paying a total of 16k.
End of quote

You describe what it should be like but not what it really is!

As I said: I took 8k for 1 turn, what should mean 8k now, 8k in the next month, totaling to 16k... But it did in fact only cost the 8k now. This is easyly reproduceable and indeed an exploit! I think it's always 1 turn less that it should be. So 5 k for 2 month would be 2x5k and not 3x5k as it should be.

I saw no event but will check again but it really did not change from 14 to 15 in two separate tries. Did you try it on a pq 14 planet?

Just a minor thing, that isn't all that important, but it sure bugs me to see. :p

Sometimes, when I click on the button to bring up my lists of planets, the list will be at the bottom of the range of planets. (Ie, I usually keep it sorted by class, and the list will be at the lower classes). I assume it just picks up where I left off, but that's not the bug.

When it does this, it will often have the slider be at the top -- making it seem as if those are the highest quality planets I have when they aren't. If I click the up arrow, it zooms to the top, and all is well... but the first time I saw this, I was a bit freaked out. ;)

I did not know that! I'll have to check this out. I guess when I buy from now on, it'll be for 1 turns. When I sell, it'll be 0 or 50 turns.

Cari,

I mean that 1 planet of mine and 1 planet of the
Torians defected to the Altarians. In the next few turns Altarian ships fired on those 2 planets as if they did not own them and destroyed the ships there and
moved on.

One of my other planets that defected to the altarians..i sent an invasion fleet against but the game would not let me attack the planet as it thought
it was mine in a way i suppose. However, I couldn't access it like it was my planet.

So..something thinks that defected planets still belongs to the original owner, and yet something acknowledges that they do not. The management and production and access of the planet seems to thus be
working ok in the programming, but something quirky
seems to be going on where it doesn't know this and
thus altarian ships are attacking their own planets
thinking they are still torian or terran planets..and
where i cannot attack an altarian planet that was once
mine.

OK, in my opinion, there does seem to be some tech skips by some AIs. I have been doing some active tech trading the past couple of games where I broker tech to everyone. Please look into the following:

1. Arceans get Impulse Drive before Cold Fusion is discovered.

2. Drengin get Space Militarization before Battle Armor is discovered.

3. Someone (forgot who) gets Warp Drive before Antimatter is discovered.

I am pretty sure of these skips because I was the first one with the proper preliminary techs in each of the three cases. And yes, I was trading techs to the majors and the minors equally well and already had the layout of the map to know everyone.

So, take a look when you got time, and thanks very much.

I want to chime in on the AI skipping techs. I have a saved game where all of the AIs have Warp Drive, but none of them have Antimatter (or else it isn't showing as available to trade). Some of them have 1D Phasing, but no one has Instant Communications. I hope this is addressed soon.

I will add my voice to the substance of messages #111 and #112. In my game tonight, the Drengin were the first to Space Militarization, Warp Drive, and 1D Phasing. In each case, neither they, nor anyone else had the prerequisite techs (Battle Armor, Antimatter, and Instant Communication). This is several games in a row I have noticed something. I'm confident that had it been this common in earlier versions, I would have seen it at some point, so I think it virtually certain that this is a new bug. If you want a save game, you need but ask. Thanks for the tremendous support to date, and I look forward to a resolution to this bug.

Total lockup using ver 1.04.059 in gigantic galaxy. Had to reboot (hold power button) machine. Once at end-of-turn and just now when I gave the dregins approx 30 ships. the only message that keeps appearing in debug is:

ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\MWIN.CPP at line 397.

Not bug, but it's a bit goofy: if the "your emissary insulted somebody" random event shows up and causes a much weaker race to declare war on you, you can then call 'em up and demand tribute as a condition for peace. Aliens that would be willing to sue for peace should probably just lower relations to worst non-war, and possibly sever trade routes once embargos are allowed (unless that'd be fiscally suicidal because no one else would / could trade with them or their economy couldn't handle the wait to set up new routes). Heck, they could even try destabilization or bribe the others to go to war with you. Declaring war and then realizing that they're massively outgunned is a bit odd 'though.

CariElf,

I had a -4% pq that I forgot about so all is well with soil enhancement. My bad...

Thanks

I finally got my copy yesterday...Yea!!

Anyway, 2 VERY minor bugs / UI issues.

1) At the very beginning of the game, on the Graphs section of the Domestic Policy screen, the beginning date on the timeline has a funky date: Dec 357916. Screenshot here: http://www.geocities.com/zorven

2) On the first turn I moved my ships and then hit the turn button. The screen still showed the date as Jan 2178. It did change to Feb as soon as I moved a ship, but it seems the date should change when I hit the turn button. Screenshot here showing after I hit the turn button: http://www.geocities.com/zorven

And thanks for the great game :CONGRAT:

Minor issue, but it can be quite confusing at times. If you go into the foreign relations screen, and talk to a minor race, when you leave, it shows the wrong picture (usually the left-most major race you have contact with). By left-most, I mean in the major powers screen, starting from the lower right corner on the second line, and reading backwards, the race closest to the upper left corner of the screen.

Another issue, which I think has been brought up by another somewhat, with the minor races.

In general, I think they play too little a role. In the games that I've played, no matter what the difficulty level, they're nothing more than a cash cow. If I have a few trade goods, the moment I discover their presence, I offer them a trade good or two, at 100 gold for as many turns as they'll let me get away with. As a result this quickly turns into a cheese tactic. Here's why:

Although they start out being relative powerhouses for the number of planets that they have in terms of population and manufacturing, this "suck 'em dry" process quickly bankrupts their economies and seems to permanenly cripple their ability to produce anything for the remainder of the game for no apparent gain on their part as part of the initial trade. They're accepting trades for things that they really have no need for given their overall strategy simply because they're being offered to them.

This goes for the major races somewhat, although it appears to be more difficult to cripple their economies this way. Just because a trade good is offered, if it doesn't happen to fit very well into the AI's overall strategy at the moment, why would it pay through the nose for it?

Regards,
Brian

- When a defensive ship is destroyed, log shows "defenses are holding" message
- Several times Altrarians have declared war on me for "being evil" when my relations with them have been neutral or better (went straight to war) and I was neutral(41)
- Taxation slider sometimes shows wrong stats near "sweet spot" when moved from left to right (clicking the right arrow). shows the right stats if moved the other way (left arrow). I have a save.
- I'm not sure if this is a bug, but as far as I can remember, I NEVER got any event for the first planet colonized. Anyone on that ?
- Moving the expenditure slider still doesn't update planet list data. Is very annoying when trying to find a good position for it.
- Several times I've seen enemy transports stop a few squares from my unguarded plants, wait a few turns, then invade.
- Maybe it's just me, because i've had this from version 1.0 and never saw it reported, but I'm almost always missing the down scroll arrow for techs under the trade screen. After pressing the up arrow, the down arrow appears.
- AI almost never researches "Defensive Phasers" till very late in the game even though it's a few turns away from "turbo phasers" and quite useful.

why is galciv accessing
C:\Program Files\InterVideo\WinDVD\iviaudio.ax
this is causing my game to CTD.

Don't know if this is a bug or not, but I just won a Small/Simple game via Military Conquest. I never captured a planet with attacking troops, and mostly just defended myself. Since I had Cultural victory turned off, it may have been that the game was scoring my planetary "conquests' as if they were Military takeovers. :)

I wound up with a score of 46712 MetaPoints. I'm going to try this again over the weekend and see if it continues to happen. If it does. I may well wind up in the top 3, if not the top 1 spot in the metaverse. I'm already the top ranked player in my Empire. :P

instead of using the default images, how about having
some races that pop up use minor empire images 11-16?

That's by design. If the Terrans have culturally absorbed all other star systems but cultural victory has been disabled the game _has_ to end in some fashion.

Several bugs I've noticed:

1. Removing items from a long, scrolled-down governor build list doesn't work properly. Specifically, double-clicking an item will remove the item that would have been in that position had the list not been scrolled.

For example, if I can see items 3+, and double click slot 21, the entry in slot 19 (I believe) will disappear.

2. The mouse-wheel needs to work in all scrollable lists. Currently it doesn't work in the following, at least:
a) above-mentioned long build lists
b) list of available improvements to add to a governor list
c) both lists of ships in the global military switch screen
d) list of things built in a turn
e) list of political parties at senate screen (or just make it able to show them all at once)

Also, the list of things built in a turn could definitely use a more standard scrollbar rather than the "up" and "down" buttons, as for late-game constructor and social-improvement sprees in can get quite quite long. It'd also be nice if wonders/trade goods/achievements were placed at the top so that you couldn't miss them in a forest of other random crap.

---

Not really a bug, but are the ship lists for the global military switch in any real order? It'd be nice to list them alphabetically, so that you could find a particular ship more easily.

Also, would it be possible to ONLY list ships actually being built in the top list? That would make it MUCH, MUCH easier to, say, switch all military production to Constructors for awhile without having to consult several different screens.
