Suddenly not working?

My copy of Demigod is no longer loading.  It ran perfectly fine, single and multiplayer, until I was hosting a custom game and my game froze up for some reason.  Since then, the game will not load.  It starts up fine but after the cinematics, when the menus should show up, it just remains a black screen and nothing happens until I Ctrl-Alt-Del to shut the Not Responding game down.

I've restarted my computer, I've reinstalled the game, and still nothing.  I'm not sure what to do, as I'm not getting error messages, it's just closing/freezing.

Same thing has been happening to me. It was working perfectly fine last night and saturday night. (yes I have a legally purchased copy from Impulse)

There is a check for updates at startup, but the server is currently having load issues due to the unplanned early wide-scale release. It should time out after a minute or two and continue on.

Yes I have a GameStop purchased copy, legally registered and all that too, etc etc.  Just clearing that up.

I deleted my Demigod folder in My Documents/My Games/Gas Powered Games/ and re-ran the game.  It works fine now though you will lose your profile and have to recreate it.

I figured that was the problem. Oh well, it will be worth the wait once it all gets fixed.

The advice worked, I waited it out, it took like 2 minutes.

One other cause of this is maximizing it in windowed mode.  I have found this can result in a black screen after the videos too the next time you start it.  In which case restoring it during the videos or zapping your config files fixes it.
