Worst Multiplayer Service Ever

To say this is 100 times worse than, for example, Relic Online gives you some idea how bad it is.

Having bought the game earlier today, actually succeeding in connecting to a game was pretty difficult - as the hours have gone past its now become impossible.

Both Custom Match and Pantheon are dire, it spends about 5 minutes telling you its trying to connect, then another 5 minutes showing you connecting to each individual player, and then you spend about 5 minutes realising that 1 player has fucked the whole thing up for the rest of you and you have to start the whole thing again.

The fact the game is peer 2 peer is no excuse - both Company of Heroes and Dawn of War were p2p and handled connections pretty seamlessly.

And just to cover some other points:

1) The Custom Match lobby is also crap - it automatically refreshes every 20 seconds or so, except when it refreshes it locks the whole system up for about 10 seconds (making you think the game has crashed) even though there are only about 10 games actually active. How long is it going to take when there are more people and more games?

2) Also on Custom Match - 90% of the games you can't connect to. It comes up with the error message "Failed to connect" or some such. Thanks for that. Very helpful and descriptive.

3) Leaderboards. Click on leaderboards and the game minimises and opens up internet explorer. This is what I would call "fucking chip shop". That is, not very proffesional, especially when alt-tabbing seems to make the game very unstable. Why can't we have ingame leaderboards.

4) No chat facility.

5) In Pantheon now way of selecting how many players you want to play with. I guess its just lucky dip.

Anyway, finally got into a game after typing up all this. Shame one person dropped before it even started. Fuck this - I'm going to play Company of Heroes.

when you have WAY more people on the game than have been there before (ie. Bet testers) then you are bound to find some problems with the game. if people just take a chill pill i can gurantee you the game is sweet i have had it for a few days (good old game stop early release) and today all the problems started. They will have it figured out in the next few days and everything will be smooth again.

So until then grab a    and find something else to do.

Chill - game has officially out for less then a day. To make a thread like this now is just pathetic.

how is it pathetic? the game doesn't work online, it's based primarily around playing online, etc.

No, devs had from beta to get this MAJOR issue solved. This is a very big issue and should have been fixed or at least bandaid fixed before the game came out, or in the initial patch.

I'm pretty much having same problems as OP, this is very frusturating and I expected more from a company who made what seems to be a very fun game.

We're working on it.  We don't expect this problem to exist much longer.  If you're on the chat, look for me.

Its pathetic because every game comes out with bugs and problems on its very first day. Stardock have been working on this non-stop so give them at least a bit more time THEN start complaining :)

I don't know.  If that was the #1 complaint in beta and they didn't fix it during that time what makes you think they will have a prompt solution for it now?

I have to admit, as it stands right now the game's multiplayer is unplayable. I've done all the requisite port forwarding and managed to get into exactly 1 game so far. Mind you, that game was absolutely glorious!

The downside? I want more, and Demigod's multiplayer matchup/connection system is atrocious. Really. It makes connecting to games a chore, a time consuming chore no less. Most of the people I have spoken to when waiting for others to connect have reported exactly the same problem.

Shame really. I hope it gets fixed soon, not only because I want to play but because I don't want this blemish to deter prospective opponents from buying the game. :)

Yes, I am having lots of problems as well.

- Game screens freeze with no progress indicator or other feedback when waiting for some network-related action (logging on, selecting the Pantheon mode, choosing "Fight!" etc.) to complete.  This is just bad UI.  It reminds me of how Everquest was when it first launched.  In the launcher, the game loop wouldn't run the mouse update until the network update completed...and sometimes that took 30 seconds or more.  So the mouse would be frozen and you'd have idea what was going on so that you could troubleshoot, close the program, etc.  The screens need to not freeze, and there needs to be more feedback on the current action in progress.

- And alt-tabbing seems to be problematic.  Sometimes it takes 5 minutes or so for it to take effect, probably because of the first issue.  Alt-tab should work or be disabled.

- Not being able to replace failed connectors is obviously a big flaw in the matchmaking system.

- The mouse cursor is allowed to slide out of the game on dual-monitor systems.  You'd think that developers, would usually run dual monitors themselves, would have been sufficiently annoyed with this problem during testing to correct it.

- Poor in-game help/tutorials/documentation.  Excusable for a mod, but not for a full-priced game.

I can forgive the network issues at release in a single-player game, but when the game is essentially multiplayer-only, it's pretty important for it to work right.  Reminds me of Civ III: Play the World, the multiplayer expansion whose multiplayer didn't work on release.

I can't even log into multiplayer (Invalid username/password).

For a game that's been in Beta for month and is supposed to be a multiplayer-heavy game, it's very disappointing...
