My first post. :-)

Hello

I heard about Galactic Civilization when I heard about MOO3, but I thought that GC was going to be a cheap game copied on MOO3 (didn,t know the story behind the game at the time). Then, today I have my daily gamespy newsletter and they had an interview with the Grand Master of this project. ;)

I read the entire five page interview, liking it the more I read it. After I read everything and checked out the website of GC and skimming through the forums, I find your game very promising and I can promise that I will get it in some way (Get the original, not a pirated copy. You're game is worth buying, unlike some junk game like MOO3 who is but a shadow of its predecessors.).

I think that the majority of the original features in GV should have been inside MOO3, but they didn't even do half of it. MOO3 has graphics that are dated since the end of 1990s, while yours are pretty recent according to the interview, you made the eye candy at the end (very intelligent on your part. ) :D

I would like to find a way to exchange my MOO3 game for this game. Wish I bought GV instead of that junk MOO3. Although I doubt someone would buy MOO3, even if it's brand neew and has everything with it including the box! :notsure:

Anyways, I will acquire your game as soon as I have the money because now I am totally broke, I don,t even have 5$ or I might ask it for my birthday which is in July, but July seems too far away for someone who was totally left on his appetite for a REAL galactic strategy and management game (e.g MOO3 yuck!).

As soon as I get my hands on my copy, I will post my thoughts about it. I find your idea of making regular updates to the game (not stupid patches) a wonderful idea, and if you do it regularly and for a long time, your game will stay alive... well... forever! Like The sims, which is a game that is still sold at 60$ Can and the game is super old! (Can't wait to play The Sims 2 btw. :) ) I think The Sims is the only game that lived so long! Can you beat its longevity? I think yes, if you bring out an update every month, even if it's only small things (often, the small things do more than big ones) you should be able to keep you game alive for five years.

Well, that's all for now. If you know a reason why I shouldn,t get the game, tell me, I don't want to get screwed by another company like Quicksilver who made MOO3. (They really screwed their clients.)

I just sent an e-mail to an old MOO fan who I didn't recommended to get MOO3 with the link to your site. (Like the registeration's PS. lol)

Roller Coaster Tycoon (RTC) has had a longer retail life than The Sims. Heck, you still see the original and it's expansion packs for $20 - $30 retail after RTC 2 was released! :)

I,ve found a demo, the game is much better than that fiasco of MOO3, although if the game is more than 30$ Can I wont buy it. I don't think it's worth more than 40$ Can, but I enjoy the fact that the people are adding stuff constantly and that you can get them freely on the internet.

I think I'll need to get the game, but I have more important things to get first as well as other games before this one unfortunately.

But it has potential.

GreyWolf,
The replay value of this game far exceeds the $40 price tag.
Along with a real community environment you will also be getting a free expansion pack this summer and customer service beyond compare. Stardock is constantly working on improving the game and there are mods coming out almost daily from the gamers. When you get the bucks this is more than worth the small price tag. ;)

Right on, jus4golf! :)

We've had someone who bought Galciv by forgoing his electricity bills but I wouldn't recommend that, Greywolf. How to play Galciv without electricity??? :D

Well you could mail your electricity check to the phone company and the check for your phone to the electric company, suddenly there you have GalCiv money! (This worked in an old episode of Rosanne.) Think Strategy First will use that in their ad campaign? ;)

My personal favourite in longevity beyond games is indeed StarCraft! Well, it's not sold as a full price product anymore, but I still enjoy playing it several hours a week.

But for SP-games (as you might have guessed I am not talking about SP in SC) GalCiv has a great potential to be played longer than most of my other SP games...

I really was a fanatic about Civilization and later Master of Orion, but there indeed were flaws in those games that somewhen annoyed me so much that they put me off.
Some of those flaws were really small (like not beeing able to tell a planet how many Missile Bases it should build before telling me it's done) but there was no hope for those to ever beeing fixed.

And here comes what I love about GalCiv: You find something about the game that pisses you off? Come to these bords, report it and see it fixed in the next patch!

The game is not yet perfect (see my posts in the bug reprts thread) but it already has less major flaws than most of the other games I ever played. And it's still beeing improved... And if all improvement is done, I don't see a reason to ever stop playing it, just like it already is for me in SC-MP.
