Trade goods concept revealed

Okay, so you may have seen in the diplomacy screen that you can trade "trade goods" but what are they?
Essentially, a Trade good is a SPECIAL kind of planetary improvement. There will be many in the game and they, like all improvements, become available due to research.
Rather than have arbitrary natural resources spread across the galaxy (though we may play with this in a sequel), players build them.
The first one to build this speical improvement gets it. Only one player can have it at a time. Each one gives players a particular advantage.
Example:
Xanthium Armor will improve the attack, defense, and hitpoints of all your ships by 10%. Whoever builds it gets that benefit. But you can also TRADE it where by you still receive the benefit but so does the other race who you trade it with. But you can only trade this item with one race at a time (you let them use it for X turns where X hasn't been debated enough yet).
This way, random geography of the map doesn't make as much determination as the player's specific strategy to decide whether they want to try to be a trading empire. The AI will take into account when determining its relations with you whether it needs the trade goods you make. Afterall, manyu of the trade goods may effect their economy, morale, etc. and without them they could be crippled.
What do you think?
