Luck!

I wonder if luck has been beefed up in 1.04. I was often selecting luck bonus, but I've never had so much luck until 1.04. In one game superior Yor force was patrolling my sector and destroying every ship I could build there. At the same time convoy of their transports was approaching my planet while my relieve force was too far away. After thinking a bit I came to conclusion that there's no way to save the planet. But couple of turns later Torian had decided to assist me in my "valiant battle" with Yor provigin few star fighters at just the right spot. Those Yor troops never knew what hit them :)

In another game (tiny/rare) my home sector contained a star with 4 16+ planets. I wonder what luck on abundant is ;->

I absolutely love rangers. I picked the racial attribute and Universalists in all my games. Last game I had two Rangers that were absolute dynamo! They completely trounced the whole military of the strongest guy on the map, simply by hit and run tactics!

Luck is, not surprisingly, highly variable. Even before 1.04x I would have some games where it seemed like every third turn I was getting another free ranger and every couple of years yet another planet would get randomly boosted several PQ points. Then I've had games where if it did anything, I'd hate to see how bad my "luck" would have been without it.

My first game at 1.04 I got 4 free rangers.

Hm, I might have to try this attribute again. I've been toying with a Technologist / PQ +7% / Research +20 (IIRC) combo lately.

Twirlip, that's one of my favorite set ups.

Although the Indies with PQ +7 and Research +20 is another nice one...

IMHO PQ 7 is too expensive for what you get. PQ 5 is good, and then you can put the rest on luck and creativity. :-)
It is fun to get a free 25% of research while it's taking you 27 turns to research star federation.
