Holy Crap! Where did the day go?

Wow. I mean wow, not WOW. Well, really I mean both.

I got lucky enough to sign up during the limited time frame for a free, open beta account for Worlds of Warcraft. It took a couple days to download the game - 2.5 gigs. I had the computer downloading it on and off.

I got it installed and started playing last night. I only played for about an hour and it seemed pretty cool, but it was late, so I went to bed. When my wife went to work this afternoon, I got on the game and really started going at it. I just spent 5 hours playing the game and I don't know where the time went. I can see how these games can be addicting. Well, I'm going to take a break from it now.

It's a fun game. I've never played everquest or any of the other online games like this before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I have to say, it's a lot of fun. I think I'll probably buy the real version when it comes out later this month. But, I'm definetely going to have to set limits on how much I play.

I have never tried an MMO game. I have wanted to, and WoW looks like a good one, but I doubt I will try it. Not enough time. Looks very cool though.

My experience with MMORG games was a debacle. At first, I neglected anything and everything to play Star Wars Galaxies. My husband and I were total junkies. I believe our children found their way to school and had three meals a day during those six months, but I cannot be sure.

Eventually, the grinding and monoty took its toll however. I think we lasted about 3 months of actual fun, and 3 months of hoping the spark would ignite. It didn't. We quit and have not regretted it.

Is WoW worth our trying?

It is definetely time intensive. It's a very cool looking game and it plays very well, but the time just flies...

Is WoW worth our trying?


I'd say it's definetely worth trying. But if you've experienced problems before getting pulled into the game, you may want to set up a limit system for yourselves. I'm definetely going to do that for myself. The game just sucks you in. Just today, I caught myself saying, 'Just one more level' or 'I'll finish this quest'. But, I always found another reason to keep playing.

You best set an alarm clock down right in front of you, otherwise you will find that time flies, like a supersonic jet. And then, before you know it, we will be posting "Where's Chip?" threads all over this place.

I think that's a good idea. After my wife got home last night, she watched some of her DVR'd shows, so I figured I'd get in an hour or two... well, about 4 hours later, the cuckoo clock told me it was 2 AM. I couldn't believe it! I'd only just started playing! Honest!

Friends don't let friends play MMORP's. Back away man. No one plays these goddamn things "for just a little bit a day". The entire game revolves around rewarding you for time spent and beating you down for not playing enough. Don't bother trying to tell me about the rest system either. They already nerfed it way back from what it was supposed to be and will continue nerfing to increase time spent. Just go cold turkey dude.

HAHAHA! Thanks for all your concern. I was indeed playing a good bit today, but that's mostly because my wife had to work again. I'm done for the night and probably won't play at all tomorrow. She has the day off and we'll get out of the house and I will see the sun. I promise!

i have Everquest 2.....very indifferent towards the game....i am still in the beginning city, so, I haven't really gotten into the game. Online games like that, they are great at first, but for me, about 3 weeks in, I just get totally bored with it. City of Heroes was like that....Star Wars Galaxies i think lasted 2 weeks.....

I can see how that can happen. I've been doing pretty good with the character I have so far, but I'm to the point now that it takes a lot of work to build up to the next level or complete a quest and I just don't have the patience to spend an bunch of time doing one thing. I don't want to start over with a new character, either because of all the work I've put into the first. Hopefully, I'll be played out when the free beta is over.
