The White Council Invitation

The White Council Invitation

The intent of the White Council is to band together a community of gamers who are interested to Galciv regularly and to contribute to improving the game while being useful members of this forum.

The pre-requiste for a White Council member is basic commitment to the above purpose. There is no requirement for you to be as clinical a finisher as "I can win in my sleep" Staffa or have the workrate of Sergey the dark horse/black sheep. :)

You might ask as to why you should join the Council where you could be a regular contributor by yourself. The White Council is an opportunity for you to belong to a small community within the big Galciv one. You would also be assured of help or assistance from your fellow Council members as needed.

If you are keen to join the Council, follow this link and click Join http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=329

Once each in two different games, Maike so not too bad.

I managed to peace out once with that offending race immediately and all those corvettes that popped out all over the map proceeded to suicide themselves against another AI.

I actually meant for the espionage bonus to apply in
times of war. Spying is a very serious and effective
affair in times of war.

Might be cool if it was civ based too, such as it
is very easy to spy in the alterians cause they
look just like us, but those damn yor, holy cow
they are nearly impossible to spy on.

Not such a bad idea, Yor receives a penalty for spying, but everyone else receives a penalty for spying on them.

to Staffa:
Do you know if the AI spends any money on espionage?? If they never do or never need to, then we would just give the Yor, the weakest AI a much needed handicap over the human player. If they do, then the two penalties will just cancel out.
I cant imagine that the AI's currently spy, after all
what in gods name would they gain from the knowledge.
Its not as if they could act on it.

Now, seeing enemy ships, that might allow the AI's to
gain something, how effectively they could use it, i
dunno.

If you noticed, my Maso/Tinies have also improved in scoring. I suspect that is due to the fact that I consciously trade only the techs that I critically need and research others myself. I think you only get points for researching techs, not trading or conquering them.
End of quote

You get points for trading for them. You get a little bit more for researching it seems to me. Although why this should be is beyond me. On maso, with other scoring possibilities depressed, this could be a way to boost score. I did a trial of 3 different games. I held out a useless tech till the very end, One game, I didn't research it, ended noted the points. Reloaded, researched then ended, noted the points, another, traded, then ended, noted the points. They were all 3 different. But the difference was fairly negligible. But on maso, over alot of techs, it could add up.
Maybe the negligible difference could be because the tech was useless. But we can see that it's much harder to test for key techs. So at this junction, we can only accept Ray's guess.

It was useless to me. The Aliens tend to pay and ask alot for it. so it may not be judged useless by stardock.

Like I said. I don't think one tech scores all that much. And the difference between researching it, and trading was very small, The difference between trading, and not having it was bigger than the difference between trading and researching. (Over the whole game, with 150 of em, on smaller maps, and higher difficulties, they would collectively be much more important. I believe that was my point. Nor is one trial conclusive.

Also my point was consistent with Ray's. That point being you score more for researching than for just trading to get em. Mine just elaborates further that trading for them is better than not having them at all.

So at this juncture, not junction, we can only accept you didn't understand what I posted.

Hmm, you were withholding information in last post. You said nothing of the relative size of the difference except that researching were a bit more or of the value to the AI. I'm sorry I misused 'junction' instead of 'juncture'.

Also I did not state that I assumed your three trails did not end the game on the same turn and thus you did not isolate the source of the differences in points to only researching and trading of techs. Again, it seemed logical from your description of your experiment, but I'm sorry if I assumed wrong.

I think a much more telling experiment would be if you noted the difference in the tech score rather than overall score. If there is a sizable difference, the conclusion would be that researching does give you a score boost over trading. If the difference is rather small, I would think that the score difference is due to another reason:

Researching takes longer, and gives you more time to grow population, which is the source of improvement in score.

I heard rumors about the white council, such as "white way is the right way" "if you ain't white you ain't right" are they true?

Wow, is Vasueden our first actual troll?

We should hold a celebration honoring him for this great
thing he has done.

A big bonfire, some dancing to the beat of drums with
fireworks exploding overhead.

It is not everyday someone does something so unique as troll
on a bb. Special occasions need to be marked for rememberence.

Perhaps we should ask the devs to give him a medal, his chest
is sadly defecient in that regard, a matter we can not allow
such an honored one as himself to maintain.

Of course, when the revolution comes, he will be the first
against the wall, but I figure he has maybe 5 minutes at least
to enjoy his fame.

Tis ok. All ended the same turn. The only difference was in fact that stated. However, interestingly enough, the only score that changed at all was the metaverse points score From researching it vs trading for it. The tech subscore remained the same. An interesting curiosity. I did not get the tech subscore from the game where I ended without it.

I would explain it myself, but this site does it a whole lot better.

Pardon my inexperience, but how did the term "troll" become associated with these characters?

I don't know. But it had something to do with trolling, a type of fishing. ie fishing on a board with insults to see if anyone will answer you. Then it evolved into labelling the poster a troll. I suspect banished will appear beside his name fairly soon.

Wow, I would not have guessed that.

Hi all,
something wrong with "Watch Thread". I got my last notification at page 21!! Well, however. Just wanted to drop by and say hello.
I finally submitted my third game. Incredible how sloaw I am :p
Having a great time with my son. He is 23 days "old" now...
Watership Down was great (somebody mentioned it some pages ago). I wish I could find more of such stuff.
Well, good night for now...

Hey Gezz!

Good to see you around. Well, winning at Challenging with the kind of limited play time you have is impressive. Seems like that every game you played is of a different version. Maybe your next game would be the Xpack :)

Ray--

I like your idea to change your empire name to the "fellowship of the ring" as you have outlined it has broader based appeal (especiialy in europe), and would make for much fun role-playing, (not that I do much of that ) Also I think it sounds a bit friendlier, makes more sense with the empire graphic, and will eliminate the few people who misinterpret the current name to have something to do with racism. Just my $.02

I had what I believe to be my first "event war" the other night. Basically the leader of a rival nation was assasinated at a conference with me on one of their worlds and they go straight to war with you. The turn clock stopped and it actually took like 30 seconds to advance the turn. Thought my comp was busted! Anyway about a billion corvettes appear and we go to war. Funny thing was, that like you, I had the highest possible level of espionage on that civ... I was thinking about posting a question as to what people use espionage for in this game. I have stolen one tech per civ/ when I get the highest level, then everytime I conquer one of their worlds my spy steals another tech. Useful to me since I seem to get a bit behind in tech, but not a huge deal. Shame, espionage is such a neat theme.
Well now, I got a quest board to get to, see ya latter.

Espionage needs some beefing up and SD knows that. They were taking suggestions some time back. With any luck, we will see something added in the Xpack.

Yup, I'm planning for the rebranding exercise now. Just need some story for the opening post of the new thread for recruitment purposes. Pity I don't possess the storywriting skills that are so evident in some of our forum members including yourself.

Alright, guys.

I rebranded ourselves into the Fellowship of the Ring.

Let's migrate our discussions over there and put this venerable White Council thread to rest.

(TAPS plays in the background)

Ray turns to salute the White Council thread.

O common now don't change your empire name just cause a few jokes. We don't really think all that stuff it true. We were just messing around, weren't we? Besides the white council sounds much better than the fellowship of the ring... :d a better name would be the brotherhood of Isengaurd. But its better to stick with the original. :)
