How to do a map editor

There's some obvious demand for a map editor, but that pretty much clashes with the maps being 3D models.  I assume gpg could just release the tools they used to make these maps(3dsmax exporter and such) but I think it would be better to have one that non modelers can work with.  The best solution to this is to have preset backdrops that the map makers can pick(and maybe texture) and then allow them some way to lay out the paths.  They obviously wouldn't have the same backdrop quality that the gpg maps do but at least we could make them.  Maybe to compensate for this, gpg could even have map contests and the winner gets his map spruced up with a cool backdrop in the same color scheme or something and put in the game.

they could provide blank backdrops  by that I mean Preconstructed backdrops holding up a featureless disc, square, triangle, etc... then the editor allows you to cut bits out of it minus the  minimum area for starting areas and make the maps unsaveable unless it meets the following criteria;

  • Must contains 2 Citadels with a minimum distance from eachother.
  • Both sides must have two portals
  • Both sides must have 1 store/armory, or whatever it's called.
  • Map must contain odd number of neutral flags.
  • There are some other basic rules I can see being implemented on the Dev created maps.

Well, I don't know about "cutting areas out" of the pre-set maps, but it seems logical that players could place barriers to restrict movement on the map. It'd have to be some thick barriers though, as you don't want players teleporting out. :P

:P let us use that circle map

Even if they just let us use the 8 backdrops that already exist I'd still be happy. It'd be better than nothing and probably not too much work for them.

Don't expect it until the 1st expansion a year from now.
