In multiplayer games, I don't get a chatroom/slot selection screen

Basically when I join multiplayer games, I don't get the little screen that lets you choose your side, say you are ready, choose your slot/color and chat with the other players while waiting.

The only way I get that window is if I host a game, but I know others have it because they chat with me when I host a game. Also I am unable to actually join games because I can never say that I am ready.

WTH is going on?

So you don't actually get into the Lobby Screen? When you attempt to connect to games, are you left at the "Connecting to other players..." dialogue box, with the little "Connection Info" box in the bottom right hand corner?
