Overlays wont render correctly

Hey. When i try to join a game something pops up in the bottom right corner. When i press it a bigger screen pops up in the middle, i believe this to be the chat. The problem i have is that it renders this way:

I play on a laptop which is equal to the minimum required setup and all settings are set to low. I can play singleplayer without a hitch. Any solutions?

that's actually the connection info window, but it's messed up
