nub erubus minion creation

Hey guys,

what causes erubus to spawn his minions, do i actually have to kill a creep with my auto attack and/or special ability? do my minion kills do it for me? how about my mist?

Any enemy that dies near Erebus has a chance to spawn a Nightwalker.
