Request for "real earth"

Is it possible by modding to make a game start in the real solar system with all nine planets and have a actual globe of the earth shown when viewing earth? I think that would make the game way more enjoyable for me.

well, there are only 5 slots for planets, changing
this mechanic will be very difficult.

Importing a seperate graphic for 'earth' might be
doable but would require work.

Creating 5 planets in your system with what ever
prexisting graphics and any names that you want
you can do yourself with mods(i believe)

I would suggest you do the 5 inner planets.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply Staffa! :) I kinda had the idea of using just Mecury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and maybe Pluto, since gas planets would be kinda hard to colonize! LOL I could just use my imagination for the globe thing. Do you know where I can get info on how to set up my "realistic" solar system?

Not really: Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus all have large moons, most of them terran, and two (Ganymede and Titan, IIRC) are/were considered candidates for potential extra-terrestrial life.

Yeah, Titan has a nitrogen heavy atmosphere, which means that it is a close mirror of Earth before the 1st organisms began creating oxygen. Also, its hydrocarbon rich elements are the building blocks of amino acids, which are vital to the foundation of life.

Sadly, I don't know anything about Ganymede, but I do know that Europa (a moon of Jupiter) is a high priority for colinisation in the future, due to its surface made almost completly of water ice.

'Tis true, unfortunately, as mentioned above in reply #1 the game only has 5 planet slots per system. One thing that might be done would be to have the moons abstracted by having a planet called "gas giant moons" or some such.
