What is Shield Mitigation?

What is Shield Mitigation? and why does it keep increasing in battle and decrease out of battle?

Shield Mitigation cancels out a % of incoming damage. The more you focus fire a ship, the less damage each ship does to the target.

If a ship has 40% mitigation then that means that enemy ships are shooting at it and 40% of that damage is being cancelled.

Out of battle, shield mitigation is 15% by default. It increases the more it gets attacked. Cap ships and StarBases get higher potential shield mitigation.

I think that frigates and cruisers get a max. of 40% while cap ships get 60% and StarBases get 80%. Don't quote me on that though.

frigs get 60% ,

caps 65% + 1,1111...% per level (starting at 2nd), which gives 75% max mitigation at lvl 10.

Dunno about starbases.

also, Advent has means of boosting max shield mitigation on its ships.

..the real question is, what is it good for? just slows down the battles, which are very slow IMO... and its unrealistic.. during the battle, shield effectivity should stay the same or decrease as it takes damage, not increase..

Shield mitigation makes focus firing less efficient. It makes a huge difference in most battles. However, it is not so good late game. The battles are perfectly paced imo.

How is shield mitigation any less realistic then anything else in the game? who cares anyway? The manual explains how it works.
